Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of mothers out there in the dark, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently out there in the dark looking for their collective mothers.

Morning all. That is all. I'm in DC & having a great time. Ii'm posting from my reader and it is not simple so this will be it for today. I saw Jose last night after the show. I did not read yesterday's posts because it's too much work. I'll read when I get back to the city. Bye for now!

Good morning, all! I think my allergies are acting up this morning; I had a piercing headache around 6:30, and I stayed in bed until around 9:15, when I decided it was time to get moving.

Since FOLLIES is one of my favorite musicals and since I have a very low appreciation of the skills of the highly overrated director of the Signature Theatre who's directing the Kennedy Center production, my expectations are not high, even if I have two dear friends (three including Teri White) in the cast and one choreographing the show, all of whom I wish enormous success with it. If the director weren't such a piece of scum, I'd have more good wishes. Someday DC will realize the Emperor has no clothes.

I have to accomplish a bit of work on the Appalachian piece today and lay out the "I Wish I Was Single Again" number. Our big work meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Much as I like our director, I found our last work meeting awkward and long. We did get some good feedback from it, so that's okay.

DR John G, I watch the Garson-Olivier version of P&P with great dismay: I think Mary Boland is wonderful she always is - but I find the virginal(?) daughters look far too old and unvirginal. Aren't the five daughters in the novel cut down to four in the film? I also find Garson and Olivier too coy, and the biggest offense is turning the evil snob Lady Catherine into a "nice old thing" at the end, even though the late great Edna Mae Oliver plays the role. Appalling. I'll bet Huxley blanched at the change in his screenplay from Austen's tone. It's like watching a version of DAVID COPPERFIELD or JANE EYRE in which Mr Murdstone or Jane's aunt confesses it was all a test to make young David or young Jane a stronger person and the scene ends with hugs and kisses!

Yesterday, I finished watching the second disc of LOVE FOR LYDIA, so I'm ready for Episode 8, which Netflix will hopefully send on Tuesday. I'm enjoying it, even if our heroine's a rich amoral slut and our narrator an idiot for putting up with her. There are tons of dances and parties, so it's sort of like a 20th Century Jane Austen novel, if, say, Jane were writing about one of the adulterous sisters in MANSFIELD PARK or PERSUASION whose reputations are damaged beyond repair. Lydia's now set her sites on the low-class, but very handsome, taxi driver, after hot and heavy action with the narrator and intensely leading on the young men played by Peter Davison and Jeremy Irons, which I expect to continue through Episode 13.

When that ended, I watched LET ME IN, the American remake of the Swedish vampire film LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Both films follow the wonderful novel closely, but both films have a strange approach to the novel and present "Scenes from the Novel LET THE RIGHT ONE IN": it's like reading the book in smoke signals, with clear pictures, then some illegible things, and you hope you've pieced it together well. The book is like a direct punch to the face.

I saw Jose and his friend before the show, but didn't get the chance to say "hi Ben" to Ben  at FOLLIES.  :)

Here's a pic of my mother from my third birthday party. From left to right in that pic: an Auntie, my Uncle Bayani, my Auntie Sol, my Mom holding my brother Michael, my Dad, and my brother Don is sitting next to me wanting to blow out the candles before I do.

Danise, is there someone at your humane society or other animal group that may be able to come in and work with you and the dogs to see if there is a way to work this out?
