Good morning, all! I will shortly head out the door for a long day of work on this Appalachian Christmas piece, I went rght to sleep, only to be awakened around 3 am with godawful allergy problems that kept me awake until around 4 am when the Chlortrimetron kicked in and I was able to get back to sleep. The pollen count must be in the deadly zone; I would swear that my entire mouth, epiglottis, and lungs are coated in a fine silt. It's most unpleasant.

Last night at Joe Allen was a real hoot, and I hadn't seen Kay Cole, who performed in a lot of benefits for the Men's Chorus, in at least 25 years. She's still beautuful and wonderful. I love Baayork Lee, and she told me to tell you hello, DR Jose! I'm hoping this day, which I think will be a bit hellish for several reasons I can't go into at the moment, doesn't go into the early evening because I do want to see Laura at the Metropolitan Room; she's a very lovely lady. I liked her,

All right, more coffee, make the bed, get out!

DR MBarnum - I believe the sign at Joe Allen has already been modified to: "No Shirts. No Shoes. No MBarnum." ;)

It's a Geriatric Panic precaution. I've seen similar signs going up around local gyms on the Upper West Side.

If I can add my two cents into yesterday's discussion of the BOOK OF MORMON cast recording:  having viewed an ootlegbay of the show, I would agree that as a stand alone, the score lacks.  But the songs really are so strongly coupled with the staging that it would be unfair to judge the show based on the score alone.  This really is the most delightful and funny show I've "seen" since HAIRSPRAY.  I can't wait until I really get to see it in July.

Good Morning!

Oh, you bohemians!

I'm currently rereading POSITIVELY 4th STREET, a book that traces the roots of the folk rock scene of the 60s.  I'm considering jettisoning my IT career and opening a coffeehouse where there will be folk music and beat poetry readings every night.  No cover charge.

DR Jose, I'm sure that chocolate dipping sauce was Hershey's. This place is as bare-bones as you can imagine, so any sauce is a nice touch.

I'm up after a pretty okay night's sleep.  Lots of noise in the hallway here in the morning - my floor must be the hub for the cleaning people - really annoying.

It's funny to see y'all discuss BOOK OF MORMON, as a NYC city writer-friend of mine just weighed in with much the same remarks.  He saw the show in previews (he said tickets were easy to get then).  He said he wasn't sure if the score rose much above pastische, but that it's pretty good pastische, and he said the book was absolutely hilarious.

or perhaps:  Thunder Rock

BK,

Perhaps I missed this along the way:

What play is Barry Pearl doing on Broadway?

Last I heard, he was going to be on a ship for a year.

???

Barry Pearl is simply delightful (even when getting  in-good-spirit boo's when his character says dumb-husband stuff) in BABY IT'S YOU.

There's a lot more that could have been done with the story, and it called out for a few new songs for those moments, though.  But the songs and costumes are loads and loads of fun.
