BK, does this LUNCH HOUR film have anything to do with the Bway play that Gilda Radner did in the 80's?  It was written by Jean Kerr.

I had forgotten I saw that! It wasn't very good and I love Jean Kerr. Wasn't Sam Waterston in it as well?

Sam Waterson and Max Wright, too.  And no, it wasn't very good.  It was like second rate Bernard Slade.

THE CHICAGO CODE ended last night and, thankfully, all story lines were brought to a conclusion.

I will miss that show.  It was a good one.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Another sleep-in day in our household, because we were all up quite late last night.  I wanted to hear about Rob's day with the paramedics in Dayton and he didn't get home until after midnight.  He is now officially finished with his practice time and just has to pass the exams before being a full-fledged paramedic.

prayres and vibes to the good people of Joplin Mo, and Minnesota = (I didn't even know they had tornadoes in Minnesota!)

Oh, yeah. I grew up with tornadoes. There was a big one in May of 1965 which we missed because we were back in Michigan for my grandfather's funeral. There is nothing like a tornado sky. When you see it you remember it. Also the stillness just before one hits and the energy in the air and the color of the sky are all distinctive.

Boy do I agree with that.  I was in a tornado when I was about 7 years old.  It hit across the lake from where we were and I ran out to save my dad from being blown away (he was outside watching it) and I saw it.   I still remember the sky and the energy.

My sister does have power again. It came back last night around 10pm. They have to throw out everything in the freezer and refrigerator. I assume they will get compensated (Con Ed did it for New Yorkers after the last big black out).

Glad  to hear that things are getting back on track for your sister.  I've been a bit fuzzy about things....did she have any damage?

These recent tornado events have been terrible in the amount of loss of life and devastation.  In all my life, I don't recall this much happening this often.  At worse, you would hear about a neighborhood being wiped out but this Spring we've had almost entire towns being destroyed.  What is going on with the weather?

I think part of it is that they are hitting populated areas lately.   They said Kansas has actually had fewer tornadoes than normal this year.  There are always a lot of them, but they aren't usually as strong and usually hit unpolulated areas so the damage is limited.

TOD:

Love & Death
Crimes & Misdemeanors

AND I also love Mr Allen's cameo in THE IMPOSTERS.

As a child - I used to think he was the UN-funniest comedian to ever appear on ED SULLIVAN....well Woody Allen and Myron Cohen.

DR John G - One of my favorite authors, David McCullough has a brand new book out:

The Greater Journey:  Americans in Paris

It covers the years 1830-1900 - too early for Cole Porter - but it may provide some historical insights to the ex-pat experience that would be useful for your paper.

Ron, you may or may not be interested to know that one of Robert Cummings' first film roles (in fact it may have *been* his first) was a Paramount aerial drama starring Miss Frances Farmer in only her second film.  It's entitled BORDER FLIGHT, and it features some rousing aerial photography that was state of the art in its day.  Bob plays a Border Patrol pilot and he gets to go down in flames.  :)  The rather peculiar cast includes Roscoe Karns and Grant Withers.

Speaking of Roscoe Karns (and this will show you why I have splinters in the windmills of my mind)--I tried to track down Katherine Orrison, the lady who does the commentary on The Ten Commandments, to ask her where/how she got her information that Herb Alpert is one of the kids trying to get the mule "started" in the Exodus sequence.  Herb is indeed in the film as an extra, but he was 20 or 21 when it was filmed, so unless he was a *really* good actor, I don't think he could have pulled off being 6 or 7, the age of the little boy in that sequence.  Katherine does not have her own email, she has a "handler" who forwards everything, and his nom d'internet is Roscoe Karns.  He told me he had forwarded my inquiry, but she never responded.  B****.  :)

Compared to other damage in the area and in Joplin her damage was bad but not destructive. There is a hole in the front of the house where an old, very large tree fell and some siding was ripped off in the back of the house. There are also huge pieces of trees all over the yard and the street. They couldn't go anywhere yesterday because the streets were still blocked from fallen debris but, as I said, there are pictures of houses that were destroyed so she got off with relatively little damage. The insurance should take care of the cost.

Here is a picture of where the siding was torn off. There is a picture of the hole in the front wall but it's on Facebook and I'm not so I can't show it to you.
