I'm association the Eden with either OH, CALCUTTA or LET MY PEOPLE COME.

I just checked.  It was OH, CALCUTTA.  A sort-of cousin of mine was a member of the cast in the late 70's.

I am back from a lovely trip to the library. On the way home I stopped to browse at the Jiulliard Book Store and to shop at the 68th Street Food Emporium. I'm thinking about making a pot of chili.

Last cast member has his music and all is well, Gardenia-wise.  Funnily, this fellow didn't know one of the songs I'd chosen for him - they included I Don't Remember You/Sometimes A Day Goes By, Isn't It Better, and Second Chance.

Don't know much about Off Broadway - although we saw NUNSENSE at the Douglas Fairbanks Jr Theatre, I think....which may have been Off Broadway.

Well....the show is cast....and awaiting acceptances from a few people who are on vacation, but whom I am sure will accept their parts.

OTH - two dumb asses turned down roles.  Even though they checked on their audition sheets that they would accept a role other than that they preferred.

One young man who is a very good singer, but a terrible actor - was offered the part of Sir Lionel....and he said no thanks, since that's a non singing part with no lines - I don't know what version of Camelot he has been reading.....and I had also planned to use him in FIE ON GOODNESS and maybe as the singing Herald at the beginning of "Guenevere" - so his part goes to someone else, and I hope he isn't planning on auditioning for me again....after all I don't do shows just so he can "work on his singing and acting" niether of which he did when he was in MAN OF LA MANCHA....too busy texting.


Another gentleman declined the role of DAP - which would have included participation in several numbers.....fine....see ya!

Dealng with CAMELOT drama.....oh well.....not unexpected.

Why would someone TURN DOWN a role in a show they auditioned for and said they would accept "another role" other than that they listed......do they think that increases their chances of being cast in a LARGER role next time?

Perhaps, after reading the role more thoroughly, they felt they were not right for it?

Or, maybe not.

The good news is that 4 of the 6 one-person plays that I published on Amazon a couple months ago are selling regularly and well.

Even Clara Bow, which I figured would sell the least amount of copies.

 

The puzzling news is that the two plays that, I thought, would attract the most attention (i.e. Orson Welles and Errol Flynn) have had no action thus far at all.

 

I guess one never can tell what will/will not sell.

Perhaps Putnam County Playhouse "board of directors" (?) should establish a policy for ALL who audition and check the box that says they'll accept parts other than those for which they've expressed a desire to perform...a policy that says, "Refusal to accept a part offered to you will bar you from auditioning for the next XX productions."

In other words, take it seriously or take your butt out of here and stop bothering serious folks.

Don't know much about Off Broadway - although we saw NUNSENSE at the Douglas Fairbanks Jr Theatre, I think....which may have been Off Broadway.

The Douglas Fairbanks was, indeed, an Off-Broadway theatre at 440 W. 42nd Street. It was torn down, along with the John Houseman, in 2005. One of the original plans in 2005 was to build a permanent home for Cirque du Soleil but that did not sit well with the community who objected to the destruction of small Off-Broadway houses and rehearsal and class spaces only to have them replaced with a huge office complex/theatre subsized by the taxpayers. The developers were to receive tax credits and all sorts of options to build the theatre for a company that was (and still is) doing quite well financially. They didn't need our help to build a theatre for themselves. So the lot sat empty for quite a while until they built a 60 story building with mixed housing (80/20 meaning 80 percent market rate and 20 percent subsidized housing) and a hotel. I don't know if any performance space is in the new building.

Prolly easier to find a Clara than an Orson or an Errol.

It was indeed Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts, 43rd and 9th Avenue. I saw it and loved it: great projections of New York, and a wonderful 3-person cast. It was directed by Steve Sondheim's close personal friend, Jimmy Hammerstein, Oscar's son and brother of William, whom I never met. Jimmy's son Andy Hammerstein is a friend of mine and author of a new book about the family.

I saw it, too, but I preferred "Howard Crabtree's Whoop-de-doo."
