Back from some eggs and picking up packages.  Boswell should be here in about thirty minutes.

I've spent the last two hours chopping green peppers, onion, garlic, and making the most yummilicious spaghetti sauce.  I'll make chili later in the week, I think.

I made some spaghetti sauce yesterday with tomatoes from the backyard. I tossed the tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garlic with some balsamic vinegar and then slow-roasted it all for hours.

DR RLP - we can't afford to do anything that limits our talent pool.....one director's problem is another director's star....it seems.

Topic of the Day:  if you're talking about off-Broadway plays and musicals that we've actually seen off-Broadway, then I haven't.  Unless you include STOMP, which I did see in Greenwich Village in 1995, but it's not really a "play" or a "musical."  If you're talking about cast recordings of off-Broadway productions, then I'll say:

Dames At Sea
The Fantasticks
Forbidden Broadway (in all its iterations)
Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly
Howard Crabtree's Whoop-De-Doo
Little Shop of Horrors
Lucky Stiff
No Way to Treat a Lady
Nunsense
Oil City Symphony
The Threepenny Opera
Tuscaloosa's Calling Me, But I'm Not Going

and mentioned by Elmore:
Ruthless (L.A. is off-Broadway, right? ;))

And many others.

That's right...I did read that.  Didn't Laura Bell Bundy play the girl?

And according to Playbill.com, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark officially opens in about 40 minutes (as of this posting)!

Quote
Following the longest preview period in Broadway history — performances began Nov. 28, 2010 — a revised version of the much-in-the-news musical Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark officially opens at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre June 14 at 6:30 PM.

So... it wasn't eligible for a Tony the other night since it wasn't open?

Right.  It'll be eligible for the 2012 Tony Awards.

Perhaps...but, it does have a lot of negative "baggage".

Don't know if it was off broadway or not, but I've always loved TUSCALOOSA'S CALLING ME BUT I'M NOT GOING

It was indeed Off-Broadway at the Westside Arts, 43rd and 9th Avenue. I saw it and loved it: great projections of New York, and a wonderful 3-person cast. It was directed by Steve Sondheim's close personal friend, Jimmy Hammerstein, Oscar's son and brother of William, whom I never met. Jimmy's son Andy Hammerstein is a friend of mine and author of a new book about the family.

i have the recording from the original and have always loved it

Well, we are without home internet until tomorrow.  I am connected to the 7-11 unsecured wireless right now.  Qwest is history.  My Comcast era begins tomorrow.

That sounds good, unless you used green peppers.  I don't like green peppers.
