ASK BK #3

At one time you thought about releasing a spoken word album Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe, but it turned out to be expensive. Was it the title or is it "speaking" cast albums in general that are expensive? (What makes them more expensive than musicals?)

We finally got rain for the first time in months. And in the form of a cracking good thunderstorm.

Saw "Company" at the theater last night. It was almost sold out. The sound quality was horrible. You couldn't understand the singers half the time, but the Philharmonic was great. The DVD stopped working in the middle of the bedroom scene leading up to "Barcelona." As an apology, the theater management handed out free passes to another show. That was nice, still we missed the injured butterfly punchline.

Like Harris more than I thought. Liked most of the cast actually. Just had some problems with Elmore's second favorite director after Eric Schaffer. That would be Mr. Lonny Price, who sometimes edited scenes with the right, "Laugh-In"-style cuts that worked with the music and at others, he was completely at a loss.

BlueGobo offers a great clip of Elaine Stritch and Russell Nype singing "You're Just in Love":

Odd--this is the fourth movie theatre COMPANY episode I've read about in which something has gone wrong equipment-wise.  Is the film cursed or is it just being shunted into screening rooms that have known, pre-existing problems?

Good morning.  I slept well and feel better.  Just knowing I am done with a big portion of the basement project feels good.

I also think the air in the house smells a bit fresher.  I think the basement will smell lots better when I get the hallway carpet out, which I will do tonight

Once that job is done, I can slowly work on the rest of it.  There's a lot to do and I have to figure out a permanent answer to the problem.

Good morning, all! I stayed up much later than usual to catch the rerun of the latest LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT episode "Icarus," about a thinly disguised SPIDERMAN disaster-prone musical. It was fun. Cynthia Nixon, whom I love, looked a great deal like Ms Taymor in some shots, and there was mythology for days.

I believe this is a laundry day, so I will also vacuum and mop the kitchen and bathroom while the apartment is in disorder. I have plenty of work here to occupy myself as well, so I won't wander far from the apartment.

DR Jose, I heard all about your travel difficulties on the 5:00 news, and I am glad you made it to DC safely and not too tardy for rehearsal.

DRcillaliz, I too have a hard time asking people for help; luckily, I have wonderful friends like our DR Jose and Ron Raines who volunteer above and beyond the call of duty. I'm glad that you do, too. Perhaps we should take or teach a class called "begging can be easy."

Speaking of the Raines family, I got the loveliest phone call from goddaughter Charlotte on Father's Day. It was completely unexpected, and completely wonderful.

The most amazing thing is happening right now on Facebook.  My mom and her sister had an older brother who died in 2004.  He had 3 sons, with whom my sister and I (and the cousins who've been here this week) had lost touch.  My sister got their addresses from my mother, called 2 of the 3 to tell them about Aunt Jo, and now cousins are reconnecting every which way on FB.  Amazing!

Lawsy, was there ever some great film music circa 1966-68.  Listening to a Percy Faith two-fer of film themes which is just one glorious melody after another.

BK claimed to be a Percy Faith fan until he saw my complete collection (every Percy CD ever released), at which point he realized he simply didn't have my level of commitment.  :)

Percy is one of the few MOR artists whose entire oeuvre has been rereleased on CD.

Now playing:  Percy's exquisite treatment of Grusin's The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.  Those Lydian flourishes he gives to the cadences are gorgeous.  I believe The Lion in Winter is coming up next, which Percy does in 3/4.
