DR Jennifer...you can order Dippin' Dots through their website. They have a page full of instructions on how to handle the dry ice, how to store your Dots upon arrival and even how to eat them (with a plastic spoon ONLY). I think you should give it a go.

Thank you all for your hearty welcomes to Valhalla. Now, who's got some chocolate?

There are so many users with names that start with the letter J!! Just an observation!

Back to the sports stories:

When I was in elementary school, my crush (the boy across the street) was playing tennis with his older bro. Me, being who I am, decided to watch my crush play. I think I was behind him in the driveway where he was standing. All I remember was getting hit in the forehead with the tennis ball. I have a knack for getting hit with balls, so it seems.

In sixth grade, my brother jumped off of the couch and accidentally kneed me in the left eye. It hurt a lot, and I took it like a...well, a girl. I cried, but I was rewarded for my pain! Having a black eye prevented me from playing soccer in PE--at least that's what I asked my eye doctor to say in a note to my teachers!

I often played goalie when my dad, bro, friends, and I played street hockey. I didn't mind getting hit with pucks or balls then since that was my job.

Last recollection: Freshman year. Ms. O'Neill's class. Flag football. *Shudders*

I've always been known as the smart Broadway girl. People had a skewed perception of me. They assumed that because I did well in school, I had no social life. My friend still teases me about that. Apparently people said that all I did was go directly home from school to study, and then all I did all weekend was homework. It amuses me that they were so wrong! Anyway, a common misconception about little ol' me fueled this incident in PE that day.

Since I am an actress (haha, don't you love stories that start this way?), I often tried to use my acting skills to give off an "I'm pleasantly unaware/dumb" air in gym class. I would always try to be a step behind when playing games so that it would appear that I was exerting an effort while I still prevented myself from looking like an idiot in some sort of play where I would inevitably drop the ball and lose the game. (This is the way I looked at things in my head! I overthink things way too much. I guess I really was exerting a lot of extra effort to avoid playing the game!) Well, there was this guy, Bobby, in my gym class. I liked this kid, too. We were on the same football team, and I didn't want to come off as too uncoordinated in front of him. Thank God there was this girl Jessica on the team who actually *wanted* to play. My method of playing was hanging around Jessica and then falling back at the last second so that she could catch the ball. Well...

During a play, Jessica and I were getting ready to catch a pass from Bobby. As usual, I ran toward/under the ball, but then I slowed myself down and let Jessica get ready to catch it. I must've screwed up somehow because all of a sudden, the ball came flying through the air, landing not on the ground, not in Jessica's arms, not in *my* arms, but on my head. Bobby hit me on the head with the football! To make matters worse, Bobby then made some sort of comment about it! "Laura calculated the velocity and angle so she knew she didn't have to catch the ball!" UGH. I was soooo mad! Now that I think about it, I *think* Bobby was the one who threw the ball, but I'm not positive. He made the comment, though, and that was the end of the crush!

With these "horror" stories, you better believe that I got out of PE as soon as I could! Once junior year hit, I was out of gym for good!

LauraII, I thought I was your surrogate mom.

My TIVO has been set for a week for Bunny Lake.  Today TIVO captured Leslie Parrish's Star Trek - not a good episode but she looks lovely, although I don't like her hair up.  Damn them, damn them all to hell.  Also, TIVO captured Mr. Douglas Sirk's Magnificent Obsession, which I've never seen.

Also got region 2 DVDs of Mr. Otto Preminger's Whirlpool, and Mr. Jean Pierre Melville's Leon Morin, Priest and Le Doulos, both with Jean Paul Belmondo.

LaurII you also make me smile and you’re welcome.  I would love a daughter like you.  If TCB can be Jed’s father I don’t see why I can’t be your surrogate mother.  Looks like we already have two important interests in common.  I too need to protect myself from the sun, and I collect dolls.  Wait that is three-I love afternoon tea.  Oh, and I’m 5’3¼”.

Jason CONGRATULATION!!!  WELCOME TO THE CLOUDS!

MR BK...yes I am looking forward to seeing BUNNY LAKE this evening as well.

I cannot believe you have never seen MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION....from the first note of music (lifted from Beethoven no less) to the last frame, it is over the top....and when you think they have reached the top....they raise the bar....Agnes Moorehead as Nancy.  Rock as Bob Merrick...and Jane as...the doctor's widow.  Your head will shake at the explanation of the magnificent obsession...Rock is drunk when it is explained to him, so at least he has an excuse for understanding it.  With the handsome and lithe Gregg Palmer (soon to costar with Allison Hayes in ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU).  ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS is a better movie - if only the two are measured, but MO has Judy Nugent as an obnoxious (not meant to be) blind kid.  When she was on SUPERMAN, I wanted the gangsters to steal her leg braces AND tape her mouth shut.

Open question:

What song from another musical would fit into well into another musical?

Example: Zip from Pal Joey might work in Gypsy as sung by her Press Agents (with a little scene rewrite)

Open question to all those wise theatrical sages.

Two songs from Gypsy were cut for a couple of reason.

Mama's Talkin Soft because one of the little girls singing it was afraid of heights. The song is actually important because it is referenced in Rose's Turn.

Nice She Ain't was cut because Jack Klugman couldn't sing it.

Do you think these are lame excuses? Why not fire the height challenged little girl and there were better singers than Jack Klugman on Broadway at that time?

When they had the revivals Laurents had the opportunity to reinstate them and he didn't.

Has anyone seen On a Clear Day on the stage? I am rather curious on how it played out on stage. This is one of two stage musicals that Alan Jay Lerner had rewritten for their film versions.

DR TomFromOz: I'm curious why you seem to despise MAMMA MIA so much.  Have you seen it?  Do you dislike ABBA?  Or do you just think you'd hate it?
Can't despise something I have not seen. I like Abba. When I first saw Tim Rice interviewed about the show before the London production he outlined the story line - there was not a mention of Carmelina or Mrs Campbell. I saw "Buddy" and I did not in any way feel any of the audience excitement in that either - and I am a definite Buddy Holly fan. I thought Boy From OZ was a cabaret performance and not theatre! Give me Kander & Ebb, Sondheim or Ahrens & Flaherty. Give me musical theatre.
