I don’t know why we should complain about any tactic by the suits that keeps the Tony Awards broadcast on network television year after year.  It is no secret that CBS does not do well, financially, with the broadcast; and I believe the only thing keeping the broadcast on live, as opposed to selling it to syndication, is that very snob factor we have been talking about.  If a performance by Mary J. Blige, or the presentation of an award by Rudy from “Survivor” attracts enough extra viewers to make the show viable enough to bring back next year, then I'm all for it.

DR Jay: Thank you for the recap of DeLovely.  I cannot wait to see it.  I'm pretty sure it must be set since it was at Cannes (and other places).  I hope it's wide release!

DR MattH: I thought that BK wanted people on the East Coast to post about the Tonys.  Although I agree with you that it would ruin it for them.  So maybe this is a West Coast only Tony posting party?

I cannot post while I watch, so I wouldn't be able to join in till after.  But we should get the rules straight!

DR Panni--you're not Steve Newport in drag, are you?  :)  (Inside joke for RATM-ites).

As a former RATM-ite, let's just say that Panni is prettier by far than Steve Newport in drag, or being a drag, or taking a drag. . .

That's Mr. Newport in the bottom photo. . . .in case you were wondering, he's the one with the shaved head.

DRSandra, take the damned Coke out of the freezer!  NOW!

DRCharles Pogue, I am so sorry about the loss of your Cully.  I haven't had pets in years but I grew up in a house full of Siamese cats, calicos, basset hounds, setters, and assorted mutts.  We all felt deeply the loss of each of them.

Well, I would say that it was a bad thing during the early 80s when, to my knowledge, Wolpat could only number his appearance as a replacement in I Love My Wife as a Broadway replacement, and yet was recruited year after year as a presenter/performer on the Tonys.  It was something that just jerked my snobby, elitist chain.

But now that he has substantial Broadway experience (I saw him it City of Angels), Tom Wopat can star in the musical version of this year's Tony-winning play:

Charles, the baby food, the parting, the pet left behind, it is all so hard and sad.  You gave Cully a beautiful ending to what I’m sure was a very good life.  My heartfelt condolences to you and Julieanne.

Jane, it is a tea set and it belonged to my grandmother. One of the chairs also belonged to her. She got it from a schoolhouse in New York. And the rockingchair belonged to my great great grandmother Lucy.

I spent a lovely afternoon with the Marx Brothers in GO WEST. I've been meaning to watch this one ever since I got the DVD set, but other things kept getting put in the player. Not today.

Beautiful transfer and funny film.

I may wait until tomorrow to watch BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING. Friday night TV is pretty empty, and this would be a nice Friday night selection.

Yes, it is.  To report its place in the film and who sings it would qualify as a spoiler, however.

My printed out Tony Ballot is lovely and so easy to read.  Much better than the one that will show up in the TV GUIDE.  Everyone who is going to watch should print it out!

Very, very nice.  I wish I could see it in person.  Can you get a close up of the tea set?

Thanks DRJAY!

Yes RLP - Indianer kin be prowed bout ar speling champeen!

I watched BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING for the first time last night.  I had seen parts of it many years ago.  Strange movie, and the casting really broadcasts the story.....more red herrings than a MURDER SHE WROTE episode, and Carol Lynley is just really pretty....and pretty bad.  She finds the emotion of a scene and plays it from beginning to end, no matter what.  And when she looks scared....it makes me laugh.

Bunny Lake isn't perfect by any means (nor is its source novel), but it has great direction by Preminger, great black-and-white scope camerawork, Noel Coward, and a brilliant score by the one-off Paul Glass.  I haven't seen it in quite some time and I'm looking forward to it.  I watched the doc Easy Riders/Raging Bulls, basically about the decade of cinema between 1969 and 1979.  I'll have a lot to say about it, but first I have to watch the "extras" DVD because apparently there are two more hours worth of interviews there.  The seventies were a wonderful decade for film, the likes of which we'll never see again, for reasons explained in the film and, from what I understand, better explained in the book on which the doc is based.
