Good Evening!
It was our final double-show day today...

-And tomorrow - well tonight - will be our final show. :-( I will truly miss this cast and company. Such a great group of people onstage and backstage and in the pit. Thankfully, we had a good 12 weeks to get to know each other and spend time with each other. So, now, it would be good to get some time away from each other.

-I'm sure I'll be tearing up a few times tonight...
Oh! My five-year old niece came to the matinee today with her mother and father (my brother). It was her first theatrical experience. And she had a wonderful time! -And she looked very pretty in her white dress too - we took a pic after the show, and I'll try my best to post it eventually. She's been studying all about Noah and the Ark in school, and she's always loved animals, so she couldn't wait for the second act! And when she saw the animals in the first act too, during "The Naming" she, apparently was on the edge of her seat.
After the show, I took her up on the stage so she could check it out. To her parents' relief, she said she didn't feel like she wanted to be on stage, so..

*And I had a very nice time playing the proud uncle too.
Hmmm... as for Tony Awards pics... I'll just list the ones I'm very interested in - sorry to be a wussburger, but I'm very tired, and I want to get to bed.. (I'm thinking I may just head back home to Richmond tomorrow night after the closing night party, so... And since I don't have much to pack up, it's a very possible possibility).... But I digress...
Best Book of a Musical -
Avenue Q - with
Caroline, or Change also a strong contender
Best Original Score -
Avenue QBest Musical -
Wicked -I would, of course, love for this to go to
Avenue Q too, but I think the juggernaut is already in motion for this award.
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical - Donna Murphy (I just have a "feeling" it will go this way no matter what the press - and bad press - has been lately about Ms. Murphy). Idina Menzel would be my second choice, and Tonya Pinkins a very close third. A 3-way tie would be ideal!!!!
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in Musical - It better to go to Anika-Noni Rose. If it doesn't, I will most definitely be screaming at the television.
Best Choreography - This is the one category that could go to any of the nominees, and I wouldn't be "sad" for the losers. Jerry Mitchell is kind of a sentimental fave, imho. Kathleen Marshall is always deserving. Wayne Cilento is the one longshot for me - just how much real dancing is there in
Wicked once you think about it? -But with the
Wicked juggernaut... And as for the
Bombay Dreams folks... well...
Best Director of a Musical - Hmmm... It would have been interesting had Joe Mantello also been nommed for Wicked, but since he wasn't... He'll get it for
Assassins.
Best Director of a Play - Hmmm... Yes, another "hmmm.." Another category where I would not feel "sad" for the losers.
Best Orchestrations - I would like it to go to Michael Starobin, but have a feeling it will go to Bill Brohn. -However, imho, some of the
Wicked orchestrations - especially some of the keyboard parts and percussion - are kind of puzzling and fussy.
Best Revival of a Musical -
Assassins - although, I'd be happy if
Big River takes home the award on Sunday.
Best Revival of a Play -
King Lear. And if
Raisin in the Sun gets it, that'll be another screaming at the TV moment for me.

The only actors and actresses I "care" for, so to speak are Phylicia Rashad and Audra McDonald... Interesting races/competition in the Play Acting categories.
Best Play - I Am My Own Wife
Oh- I guess I covered just about all of them.. well, not all of them... As for the technical awards... I never get them right, so...
And, now, Goodnight.
