My wife spotted a "dead bird" in our back yard this morning.

I got dressed, went out to investigate, then the bird saw me and flew away.

All's well that ends well.

We recently had a bird crash into a window & after awhile it recovered.  Sometimes it takes a long while & we thought this one wouldn't.  Happy endings are nice.

Jrand, funny about the windows - normally I would not have shot the long way in that room, I would have shot the other way, as I have at Screenland here in LA, but I loved the look of the windows so we did that.  FJL posted on Talkin' Broadway - mostly positive responses, but naturally dcb, who I think we ALL know, had to come in, as always, and make a disparaging comment, and one other guy said he didn't like it because he saw the original movie during its original run.  I don't really understand his point - it's almost as if he took the clip seriously.  You would think dcb, who I think we ALL know, would get tired of this crap, but apparently this crap is what dcb lives for - every waking minute of every waking day.

Yeah, the story I read in the NYT had "I Do, I Do!" being revived with Bernadette and Martin Short reuniting after their less-than-triumphant performances in "The Goodbye Girl."

Well, I leave you to draw your own conclusions.   I know I've drawn mine several years ago when dcb showed up and began making with the comments on every post I made.

DR TCB also asked why Canadian Thanksgiving is in October.  I looked it up and apparently:

Canada has an earlier harvest season than its neighbors to the south. Crops are usually all harvested by mid October therefore the celebration of Thanksgiving is during that month.  Many Canadian provinces also receive Remembrance day (November 11th) as a holiday. In order to break up the holidays, Thanksgiving was placed in October, between the two holidays Labour Day and Remembrance day.

There is also Canada's long association with Britain where the harvest cycle begins with Lammas Day (August 1st) ends at the autumnal equinox in late September. This time of year is associated with the celebration of bounty since the 6th century and is marked by church and laic celebrations

Thank you, Jennifer, I have always wondered.

The piano player is Brandon Uranowitz, who'll be back with us when we shoot the NY season two episodes.  He was in Baby, It's You with Barry Pearl and is a great guy and very funny.  Funnily, he doesn't actually play the piano.

I've not known such a foggy day for a long time. It makes everything very still and quiet. The nearby airport is having to divert and delay flights.

I thought it was always foggy in London town.

However, I did get good amount of sleep, but I think I could use some more. The past week really caught up with me last night. I kept trying to stay awake to watch SNL, but I think I ended up dozing off every other skit. I also didn't hear my friends/hosts come in last night, nor did I hear them walk their dog. Oh... And I fell asleep on the couch too. Whew!

I loved the Episode 2!

And then I found on youtube clips from the Chicago Light Opera Works production of THE GOLDEN APPLE with a good cast and a full orchestra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1khi-gxI-c&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

It's great hearing the full Act one Finale and Judgment of Paris, which are cut on the OBC.
Thank you. Hope to catch that later.

I guess there is a reason why I have never heard the score before.

I thought it was always foggy in London town.

It used to be up to the '60s.... and no film set in London up to then looked authentic unless the streets were shown full of fog.  The thick fogs were known as "smogs" or "pea-soupers" but, over time, they disappeared when clean air laws were brought it to ban the use of smoky coal. I remember leaving the cinema in the late '50s with my sister and finding a thick fog had descended in the late afternoon. All the trains and buses had stopped running and we had to walk several miles to get home - which took a long time because we could only see about three feet in front of us. One advantage of the smog was that at school we were often allowed to go home early before the buses stopped or before we couldn't see our way home.

Quotes from: vixmom and Jose on November 19, 2011, 11:57:24 PM
what is the difference between the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet?

Jose - Um... I think there's a side-by-side comparison chart at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook/379003208

From what I can tell, the main additional feature of the Tablet is the built in HD Hulu and Netflix streaming capabilities.

Read David Pogue's comments about it, though because the "HD" claims, according to Mr. Pogue, (a trustworthy source) are exaggerated.

Nook Tablet

Oh, by the way,

Morning all.

That is all.

I've been seriously looking into which one to buy the Nook or Kindle. An IPad is too expensive for just being a reader.

I went to the B & N Botique last night and looked at Nook Color. (Tablet doesn't interest me)

Today I will go to Staples and look at the kindle, I'm leaning towrds the Nook because there larger selection of books, you can read books in the store. There is an yearly fee of $80.00 for the kindle if I understand what Pogue said in his article. B & N discounts their ebooks. You can join there B & N club for $25. They will put that towards the cost, but the club doesn't work on the ebooks.

I will make my decision after I go to staples

I wish there were stores I could go to look at a kindle. I think the only way to get it here (they will ship to canada) is to order it thru amazon.com. I wish amazon.ca sold them. But from amazon.com there i a large duty and shipping charge.

I can't imagine that there is an $80/year fee for a kindle.

I think one consideration on nook vs kindle is if you plan to buy a lot of ebooks ... where do you want to buy them from?

The only ereaders we can get here are kobos (chapters). I'm not sure though how it works if we want to buy books from amazon (if it's possible).

I actually didn't buy anything. Although my sister bought me some fudge (i love fudge).

My niece got this fancy pencil. A lady made a fancy girl that sits on the eraser of the pencil.

My niece loved it as soon as she saw it. My sister told her she could have one thing from the fair but she needed to look at everything first.

The whole time she was saying that i was thinking "um do you know your daughter ... she is so coming back for that pencil!" :)
