I duly waited until 9 a.m. to see what Amazon.com "Lightning Deal" was being offered (and the hint was that it was a laptop of some kind).

It was a Samsung Chromebook.

All right, I thought.  Nice price, too.  I pressed the button and was forced to select a size (only one choice, but I still had to select it) and then I had to select a color (white or silver).  I selected and noted that, after less than 50 seconds, 78% were sold.  I pressed the button to buy...and was informed I was no. 178 on the wait list.

NUMBER 178 !!!   (As is always the case in these situations, I will wait for eternity).

I wonder what number I'd have been if I hadn't been required to make two different "selections".

I hate the holiday e-shopping experience.

I've finished my errands. I took the 104 bus down Broadway and had a nice conversation with Rosalind Elias. I wonder if she's off to the matinee of FOLLIES or running errands before the show.

I think she might make a good Aunt Minnie AKA Madame Roberta: two scenes, one song "Yesterdays," and a death scene.

I'm off to run some errands; I've trimmed about 500 measures from the ROBERTA budget, so we'll see if it passes muster.

You are quite a surgeon.
It's like miles of colon. But, seriously, does that mean we will have to wait for another recording to get "the complete recording"? The underscoring on these shows is generally wonderful. I love it in the new "Follies" recording, for a recent example.

There will, sadly, probably be no other rcording of ROBERTA with all of it's underscoring. It's 3500 bars of music. EILEEN had only 2700, and THE RED MILL has nearly 3,000!

The cut I hated making the most was the Wardrobe Scene, in which Stephanie is dressed by the seamstresses for her appearance in the Finale as a Grand Duchess. It's a simple underscoring over a dialogue scene building to a triumphant Russian national anthem. Enough of the Act One numbers will show how things weave in and out of song and dialogue. One of my other concerns is simply how much dialogue I can commit th singers to record.

Based on her version of "One More Kiss" I would agree.

And in a very Hal Prince sort of move, I just booked my next gig:

I'll be covering the second half of the run of My Fair Lady for The Barksdale Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, from December 16-January 8. They're doing the version scored for two pianos. I had actually planned on being home for the holidays this year, so, it's a proverbial "perfect storm" - but in a good sense. *And I really don't think I've been back to Richmond since last Christmas.

Will there be performances on Christmas Eve?  If so, will you miss BK's annual spaghetti partay?

Things change faster on West 82nd Street than they do in Wonderland! ROBERTA is off the table for a 2012 recording, and my reconstruction of the Rodgers & Hart DEAREST ENEMY is going to be recorded in August 2012. ROBERTA will be recorded complete in 2013.

And speaking of "One More Kiss" and the new Broadway cast recording of Follies, my copy just arrrived!

Now I can "officially" listen to it and not feel guilty. ;)

Visited the opticians to sort out my broken glasses. To my surprise, they said the broken metal frame could be repaired and gave me the name of a frame repair company. I went onto their website, completed the on-line form and mailed it together with the standard payment of £22 ($35) which is a lot cheaper than having to buy a new frame or new lenses and frame.  Until they are returned I will have to go around wearing my prescription sunglasses which, at this time of year, will at least make me look fashionably mysterious - or something.

That's great!  VIBES YOU HAVE YOUR GLASSES BACK EXTRA FAST!

Congrats. Barksdale is a theater I would love to go to one time when i'm in Richmond. Trouble is, I'm never there when they're doing a show I want to see. They did a production of Sammy Cahn and Charles Strouse's "Bojangles," which would have been wonderful. When I was there last, it was "Joseph and the Amazing ..."

Oh, well.

I've done the four-mile jog, I've banked, I've picked up one package, I bought a couple of pairs of pants, and I'm now home until I leave at around four-thirty or so.

DR John G - I asked this in the relative wee hours last night: Which Ives disc were you listening to yesterday?
It's a new recording called "Four Sonatas" from Deutsche Grammaphon. Hilary Hahn on violin and Valentina Lisitsa on piano.

I haven't read the booklet yet but the notes on the library website say they are Sonatas Nos. 1-4. What I like are the way he takes a hymn of peace, like "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" or "Bringing in the Sheaves" and then brings in this modern agitation and thrumming to surround the melody, and then you get to the calm. Again, it's energizing and peaceful at the same time. I'm getting a lot of work done.
