I just looked at our last e-mail correspondence - in August, and it does look like we sent her four books - I have an e-mail to the helper telling her to come get them and ship them, followed by "let's do it quickly - she's very ill."  So I obviously knew she was very ill, but I'm positive she never mentioned it was cancer.

She mentioned the seriousness of the Stenosis, not that she had cancer.  She saw a specialist when she was in Israel & never mentioned the results to our mutual friends there.

How serious was her stenosis (he asked fearfully)?

She talked about the potential for how serious it could get & was looking into treatments.

I'm sitting here crying as I type.  Keith & I are so very sad today.  He has known Susan since high school & I have known her since 4th grade.  Last I spoke to her I knew she was seriously ill, but not without hope or that she had cancer.

Bruce, your notes this morning were very moving & a nice tribute to Susan.

Hugs to you and to Keith, Jane.  My sympathies

Thank you.  It is nice to be where others cared about her too.  She had a habit of calling late for us when she should have been sleeping.  She began calling when she was in San Diego visiting her mother & was on the same time zone as us.  It feels strange knowing she won't be calling again.

I agree.  It is hard to imagine her gone.  I doubt that I will ever get to Israel to pay my respects.

I will probably engender discontent among those in the know here, but I watched MEMPHIS last night (which I must review) and I must say I found Chad Kimball incredibly annoying.  I'm sure he's sweet in person, but that ridiculous patois he did just drove me up the wall.

Why did Chad Kimball have to leave the show?

Tony Nominee Chad Kimball Will Take Indefinite Leave from Memphis:

Quote
"Chad suffered some nerve damage doing the show a few months ago," Cloer told Playbill.com. "Because of this, he has missed quite a few performances recently, and his body needs a real break with time to properly heal. The role, quite taxing as Chad has created it, just doesn't allow for this so he will be taking a leave." Memphis plays Broadway's Shubert Theatre; Kimball's successor has yet to be announced.

Adam Pascal has since taken over the role.

I too never knew the complete reason (or the extent of the problem) when Susan left the board. I know several of us wrote to her trying to convicne her to return.

Because of her wish for privacy I always hesitated to share my first post here:

Bruce, If you want to get in touch with Susan Gordon, give me a call or write. Keith & I are still good friends with her. I have known Susan since 4th grade.

I was looking through the archives at HHW covering the two days in the recording studio during Jeepers Creepers.

I totally forgot that DR Jose C. Simbulan (as he was known back then) was one of the backup singers for Judy Kaye.

Fond memories of past posters such as   William E. Lurie and S. Woody White and Phil

And even Tom From Oz and Matt Hough posted back then

But it ws heartening to see how many posters from 2003 are still here (Through good times and bum times)

Not a bad group of people and excuse me if I missed anyone

and Arnold Brockman's son Craig.

and Matt Hough who only posted once or twice a day and not his entire life as he did before he left us. :-)

And I'm being crtical of myself

I wrote such gay postings! I didn't see it back then but my god looking back YIKES

Little did I know at the time that it was only the 4th day for this site.  It still amazes me I chose that day to find Bruce, prompted by wanting to give Penny Bruce's work number as well as his home number.

I posted irregularly until I was recovering from a surgery to reduce my risks of an inherited cancer.  Sadly it was also about the time Susan felt she needed to stop posting.

Odd how we go in circles with this story.

and we all know DR Jose's love for food.

He posted some of his favorite restaunts.

Are they still a favorite?

Favorite restaurants:

Richmond, VA: Stella's - Greek food, plus... And Stella always treats me and my guests very well. Her Black Walnut-Apple Streusel "bread" at Christmas is totally amazing, and she only makes it for her "special customers" - I get two loaves every Christmas. -Each one weighs at least two pounds - just chock full of apples and almonds... oh, and the streusel topping is at least a half-inch thick! -And her "regular" bread is a Richmond legend!

-And there are some other fine places to eat in Richmond, very fine. Even nationally ranked and rated! Acacia, Mamma Zu's, Edo's Squid, The Track, Amici, Kuba-Kuba.. Great names, huh?

DC: Carlyle Grand Cafe and Sweetwater Tavern - Owned by the same company, similar menus, but each place has their signature dishes and style. Always dependable.

For sushi: Matuba - wonderful fish, and gracious service. But Makoto is the ultimate sushi experience. Practically magical - and expen$sive.

For tapas: Jaleo - The chef does amazing things, and has also just opened up a Mediterranean tapas place, Zaytinya, that serves small dishes from Greece, Turkey and Egypt.

For Spanish: Taberna del Alabadero. True Spanish cuisine served in a beautiful room.

For Seafood: Kinkead's - Simply wonderful.

I was just looking at the first day at the revamped HHW.  I think it was October 22, 2003.  Everybody kept asking what Karma was on the board.  Wasn't that the little switch that turned us all against each other, until BK had it removed?

Yup...the Karma points seemed to become VERY important to some people.

A long time.  We moved away, she moved away, we lost contact.  Then one day I was visiting my dad & she was visiting her mother.  We were both shopping for groceries & almost crashed head on to each other at the market. :)  That was in 1984.  We were both living on the East Coast within 3 hours of each other.  I even drove to her & we flew to our class reunion together from Newark.

It wasn't so much that people were concerned about receiving Karma points, more that others were having them taken away, not nice at all.  I liked the little karma fairy though.  She would have been nice to have had with the happy faces to use for good vibes.

Well, this is (sort of) interesting...two different articles about two different upcoming musicals:

Tuck Everlasting Musical in Development With Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw.

and:

Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw in Negotiations to Direct "Austin Powers" Musical.

Hmm.

Here's an article on Playbill.com that I'm sure that BK won't be surprised to read:  Leap of Faith's Creative Team Now Includes Sergio Trujillo, Warren Leight and Christopher Ashley.

Quote
The producers of the new Broadway-bound musical Leap of Faith, based on the film, officially announced on Dec. 13 that Christopher Ashley (Memphis), Warren Leight (Side Man) and Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) are new members of the creative team. Ashley will direct and Leight joins Janus Cercone to revise the book. Trujillo is the new choreographer.

Good Evening!

Well, I managed to function through most of today in my jet-lagged-induced haze. I can tell that I'm starting to get back on East Coast time, but, I had totally forgotten just how bad jet lag can affect me. -Alas, I don't think I've ever had to be back "on" after coming back from the West Coast (or Australia or the Philippines).

I did get some practicing done this morning, but it basically turned out to be a quick sightread-thru session of Act One. There are a lot of notes. There's nothing technically demanding, but practicing with a dull headache is never a good thing. Tomorrow should be a bit more productive.

I had planned to take a nap around 3:00, but then started to take care of a few more errands and didn't get back to the apartment until around 4:30. Consequently, I ended up crashing around 5:00. And two hours laters...

Now to figure out what to do for dinner.
