For once, everything is ready before people arrive.  I think that's a first.  Naturally, my neighbor across the street is having a partay, too.  They did it last year and I really REALLY don't like these people - they used to do their partay on the 23rd - always, for years, ever since I moved here.  And they only have people over with those humungous SUV things and they take up ALL the room, and this year, unlike last year, they started their partay an hour earlier than mine.  I must say, they suck in just about every way, whether it's leaving a Fiat parked in the same spot for twelve weeks (until I called the traffic department - they ticketed the car and would have towed it and I think the oafs understood that and moved it), or their kinfolk who park in front of my house with some decrepit old trailer from the 60s, or just lording it over the nabe.  Bah, humbug!  Guests in ten minutes and I'm ready to EAT!

Huge attendance, probably the largest I've seen in my years here, we had to cart out a lot more chairs for people.

How close is the church to your house, JMK?

I got a lovely package of DVDs in today's mail. One of them is the North Carolina PBS broadcast of rhe North Carolina School of the Arts recreation of the original production of OKLAHOMA!, so I've been watching it. It's absolutely glorious: the orchestra plays the new cleaned up score beautifully, and the cast - for a professional student cast - is quite good, especially Kyle Guglilmo as Curly. The Laurey looks great but I'm not crazy about her acting. Ado Annie and Will Parker are good, and the recreation of deMille's choreography is truly fantastic.

It's a nice Christmas gift.

And...

I'm back from Christmas Eve Mass. My parents wanted to go tonight since everyone else - my brothers and their kids (the grandkids) - will be arriving later in the day tomorrow than previously thought. It was a nice service, although, the music director really needs someone to pull back the levels on the timpani microphones(!). ::)

Oh...

And it was my first encounter with the new version of the Roman Missal. I'm not sure I like it. ;)

-I truly think someone just wanted to include the word "consubstantial" in their in order to fulfill a lost bet. ::)

However, the church did provide a nice, laminated "cheat sheet" with any new words and verbiage in bold print. That helped.
