I am curious in the US version did they show anything about Erika and Mikael's relationship? I remember they left that out of the Swedish version and that really bothered me. Because in the books something that happens with them at the end of the first book is what starts everything that happens in the 2nd book. So to me that was a big thing to be left out.

It's in the US version and is part of what DR DRUXY described as anti-climactic. It's part if the reason I liked this version. I think in some ways it's closer to the book

I think I also liked seeing the extended ending in the Hollywood movie if only because it drove home to me further why the book in Sweden is called something that translates into "Men Who Hate Women" and it sets up why she won't speak to him in the second part of the tale.

Novels are novels and movies are movies.

Structurally, they are two entirely different animals.

When a movie tries to mirror a novel, it runs into problems, as this one did during the last fifteen minutes.

I won't go into specifics, because I don't want to be a Spoiler.

I also enjoyed THE HELP, but that is another movie that followed the novel too closely.

We have switched back from the Christmas dishes to the everyday dishes and I've dismantled the mantle (bye-bye, bubble lights!). Tomorrow the tree comes down and all that'll be left of the holiday decor will be the piano full of angels. They've been known to hang around until it's time to decorate for Easter...

And as soon as my second small load of laundry is dry, I will pack into my luggage, then decide just how much of the "stuff" I want and/or need to take back to NYC.

In any case, it looks like I'll be able to get a few hours of sleep before heading to the Amtrak station in the morning. Of course, if my anal retentive gene decides to kick in, well... We shall see.

And before today's closing matinee, I managed to make it back over to Stella's for brunch. When I walked in, the place was packed. I was hoping to grab a place at the bar, but there were no free seats. However, I spied an empty place at the communal table, and went ahead and sat down for a nice brunch.

Today's selections: a frappé (Greek iced coffee), Tsoureki Vyssinos (French Toast made with Greek Easter Bread, topped with sour cherries, almonds, pistachios and whipped Greek Yogurt), and a side of Loukaniko (housemade sausage with fennel and orange zest).

On the way out of Stella's, I saw Stella's daughter, Katrina, and Katrina's husband, Johnny. -They basically run an "empire" of restaurants here in Richmond. I also talked briefly with Katrina and Johnny's son, Dean. I remember when Dean was born - 22 years ago! He's actually up in NYC right now in his last year at Parsons. -In fact, he designed all of the graphics and website for the new restaurant: Stella's Richmond.
