Well, a black cloud that has been hanging over my head for the past week has now been lifted.  Last week I received a letter from the financial institution that handles my retirement funds.  They just wanted to let me know that they had received the request and they would issue the payment on.................... March 2, 2012.

I literally had a meltdown over this letter.  I had been led to believe that I would have my money no later than the end of January.  This date was over a month later.  So after a week of phone calls, faxes, and near hysteria I have now been approved for my hardship request, and I should have the first portion of my money by the middle of next week.

Could anything else go wrong?

!!!!!!!!! Fantastic News, you little Hardship Case!!!!!!!!!

Good Evening!

I'm trying to decide if I want to watch the State of the Union address, or go out and get a late dinner. I had a late lunch, so... Now I'm hungry again.

Looks like Best Supporting Actor is going to be the biggest contest (IMHO, anyway).  I know current sentiment is probably for Christopher Plummer, but I have a hunch Nick Nolte is going to win.
And my sentimental choice would be Max von Sydow for giving a silent performance (in a year of praising silents) and for career achievement. True, he didn't sing over the Alps with small children ... But maybe that's in his favor.

However, I would be willing to wager that DR George has a Swedish Cast Recording of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, with or with out Mr. von Sydow.
Because Max von Sydow IS Maria von Trapp.

I've never been across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Seriously?
I haven't either. In fact, I've never been to San Francisco.

TOD - This past October I achieved one of my biggies when we traveled to Europe, especially Paris.  I've been thinking all day about BK's question and have come up with - living in a big city again.

Buying the alto flute was something I'd always wanted to do.  I can't think of anything else right now.  I'm pretty content these days

DR TCB - 3 years ago when I retired it took longer for my first payment than I'd have liked.  I'm glad your situation has been resolved.

I'd go with dinner, Jose.

Well...

I ended up watching the #POTUS deliver the #SOTU - as it was hashtagged on the Twitter - and then I headed out for a late dinner of some Japanese fried chicken with curry. It was #NOM.

And now I'm finishing up a slice of "Boston Cream Pie" from a Chinese bakery... Which, as it turns, out is more of just a Whipped Cream Pie. However, the cake part of it is really good, and the whipped cream is fresh too. So, no real complaints. ;)

Well, I have to go for a blood test tomorrow and then spend some time with my Mother.  I'm looking forward to the latter, but not to the former.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Well...

It looks like I will finally, for realz be making my conducting debut in DC during the run of The Music Man. So...

Like DR Ginny, I would like to go to Paris. And since I have two and a half weeks totally free before I start the main part of the rehearsals for The Music Man, well... I've been doin' some investigatin'.

Well I've managed to churn out two reviews, a hideous torture porn piece and the new 25th Anniversary POTO (yes, those are two different titles ;)), as well as a rather nice (if I do say so myself) arrangement of What Wondrous Love is This for choir and cello.
