Speaking of nixed, we were playing Taboo last night with Betsy's parents, and someone offered the clues, "slimy and disgusting," to which I responded "President Nixon," but alas that was not the correct word.  :)

Which politician did it refer to? I think there are many to chose from.

two more days until I go back to work. I'm not sure I'm ready for it. But it's ready for me.

I made a slight dent in the to-watch DVD stack. That's about all the work I've done at hone.

I have enjoyed SEASON TWO of Downton Abbey.....which I downloaded and watched some time ago, including the Christmas episode.

I have enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS just because the former series was SO cheap in production values....even by its contemporary standards.

And my favorite moment in BOTH seasons remains Maggie Smith's comment on having electricity inside the house:

Shading her eyes with her fan:  "I feel as though I were onstage at the Gaiety."

Yes, Miss Smith may have gotten the best lines in the show.

The Netflix subscribers here may want to check out LILYHAMMER. I quite enjoyed season 1 and am hoping for season 2. It's available on both disc and streaming.

Did someone actually answer JR's L.A. locale question?  I missed it.

Jane, no, you will most likely NOT scratch your DVDs with a soft microfiber cloth, but the reason you should wipe from the inside out in a straight line is in case you DO scratch it (inadvertently).

I won't worry about it then since I'm not likely to scratch it with the cloth I use.

Incredibly it seems no one was killed in the accident I saw this morning:

That's good.  Impaired was my first thought regarding the driver.

I don't recall exactly what fritters are--they're like turnovers, yes?

I recommend the apple fritters at Stan's in the Village located across from the Bruin Theater.

I will admit that I was completely wrong in guessing the age of the at-fault driver in DR JMK's story.

We just reduced out NetFlix account to only one DVD at a time.  The Redbox was very easy so we will give it a try for awhile.

I had never noticed the building in any movie shot in LA, but it is very distinctive.  I am thinking the Southland episode I saw last week was shot on the roof of that building on the left.

Yes DR JANE - Wikipedia says that it's one of the very few examples of Art Deco architecture still standing in LA since the demolition of the Ritchfield Oil Building back in 1969.

I've been lazy.  Then I went out to eat - one simply cannot go out to eat on a Sunday at one-thirty - EVER.  It seems that every human being in the City of Studio is at one of its restaurants - lines everywhere - Jerry's, The Studio Cafe, Art's, CPK, and everywhere else.  It was a joke.  I went to the Subway.  Just finished episode three of Downton Abbey.  When a new character showed up I had a concern, but that concern was gone by the end of the episode.  One of the things I'm really enjoying is the look of the show.  None of this brown/yellow crap they so love today - this thing looks like old Technicolor.

BK, perhaps you should substitute the name bacon maple bars in place of apple fritters.  Then when everyone reads you are now eating bacon maple bars, they will become the newest trend.  You will then be able to have all of the apple fritterrs that you want.

Bacon Maple Bars is the name of the new franchise I am opening in select cities across the USA.

We sell octopus eggs.....but I don't think many people would come in if our sign read: Octopus Eggs.

Wow if you click on that little pencil and pad on the right of your own posts - you can edit your post.  I guess I never noticed that before.

The service was very nice. It was something new for ALL of us. The guest of honor was able to attend, and friends she has had for 50 plus years were able to attend and told sweet loving stories about her. One of her friends played "How Great Thou Art" on the grand piano, and one of the women sang "His Eye is On the Sparrow." I left before the end to get into the kitchen to help set out the foodstuffs. Then I stayed and helped with the dishes. I am tired. Her family is all from out of town, and they were all amazed at all the work we all did. I told her that her mother is very loved in our congregation.

I think that is absolutely wonderful -  I wish I had heard of this idea last summer - we recently lost a lady who was a member for over
50 years and was very beloved - she would have loved this

Yesterday's Topic of the Day (favorite ALW songs) ;D:

As If We Never Said Goodbye

Buenos Aires

Don't Cry for Me Argentina

Everything's Alright

Freight

Growltiger's Last Stand

Half a Moment

Married Man from Tell Me On a Sunday/Song & Dance

Memory (I always wonder what Judi Dench would've done with the song if she'd not broken her foot and Elaine Paige taken over the roll two days before the show opened, and would Cats and "Memory" have been as big hits with her singing it)

Our Kind of Love (from The Beautiful Game, in between it being used in the original, unfinished sequel to The Phantom of the Opera and becoming the title song to the finished sequel called Love Never Dies)

Prima Donna

Tell Me on a Sunday

Unexpected Song

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

With One Look

And most of Joseph..., and many mote.

Such sad news to hear about Judi Dench.
