I made a Tuscan white bean and shrimp salad. I had made this before and didn't care for it. This version I loved because I had organic white beans from Italy and fresh Gulf shrimp to work with. The ingredients in something this simple have to be exceptional. They may cost a little more, but I found in this case, they were really worth it.

Sandy made saffron risotto, very creamy and rich.

Patti made brasciole, a meat roll, that was somewhat overcooked, but the flavor was really good.

Pam, Cecil's wife, made the main dessert: sage pudding. It was a recipe from Lidia Bastiancich and it worked beautifully (and I'm not a huge sage fan).

Patti knew what dessert would be, so she made lemon-pecan-corn meal cookies to go with them. They were light and like a Mexican wedding cookie, only more delicate.

Steve, Sandy's husband, opened the wines and proved indispensable at that. We also had a few red, but the whites were really stellar and everyone appreciated that. That makes me glad. I prefer a dry white that's well made to a pricy red wine. (Maybe it's because I live in a hot climate and icy whites are welcome here.)

Well, that was dinner. We talked and got to know Patti a little better than we had. This will be the first time that Pam and Cecil have traveled with Steve and Sandy. I've traveled with both separately, and none of us had traveled with Patti before.

I hope it works.

Cecil also lent me some rather large tubs, which means I will likely start making loquat wine in the next day or two.

I've never made wine before, and although loquat wine is sweet, I'm looking forward to giving it a try.

In the "I'm only behind the cultural zeitgeist by a few years department", I *finally* finished Next to Normal.  I like Act I a lot more than Act II, though "Light" is a killer.

I am experiencing the weirdest phenomenon that I think I have to go see my doctor about if it doesn't abate.  I planted some flowers last week and then within a day or two my wrists (!) and palms got covered in a really bumpy rash.  It doesn't itch, it doesn't hurt, but days of antibiotics and hydrocortisone have done nothing to make it go away.  I'm getting a little freaked out.

Yikes!

Mom was finally released from the hospital on Thursday and is now in a strangely decreed rehab center.  She would much rather be home but grudgingly admits she needs to do some therapy.

Hey!  Did I miss anything?

I am sorry if I have kept you all out of the loop, until now.   Anyway, on Thursday I left the Care Center and returned to my house.  I will be undergoing P.T. on an outpatient basis, after I have healed a bit more.

That nursing home was not a good fit for me.  I am sure there is plenty of guilt to go around.  Naturally, I fell like I have made all of the right decisions regarding my recovery; and I honestly believe that their actions and conditions were counter-productive to my getting well.  I talked to my surgeon’s office and I also talked directly to my nursing home doctor about my reasons for leaving; both had no problem with my actions.  I attempted to call my Primary Care Doctor, as well, but he was out of town.  I left him a message regarding the change in my care.

I would have come out of the place a lot more screwed up than when I went in.; if I had stayed any longer than I did.

Welcome home, TCB!!

Well, "Titanic" didn't hold my interest.  Not that I felt that it was bad per se, but I just wasn't interested in the stories that were being told.  I still recorded it and will record the last part for my niece.

Tomorrow, there's going to be a reading of "Titus Andronicus" that Pug (the artistic director of TAO) has cut down.  It's just the first cut, but Pug wants to hear how it sounds.  It'll be with anyone who just shows up.

If I don't act in it, I'll probably run either the light board or the sound board.

I ran the light board at the theater that we're more than likely going to perform in, and I ran the sound board for TAO's "The Hound of the Baskervilles."
