Did any of the usual suspects go and see SINGING IN THE RAIN on the big screen yesterday?  Naturally, Tacoma still didn't have any theaters on the list.

There were none in the immediate DC area either!  The nearest was in Columbia, Maryland, which is not convenient for me.

thanks, KevinH.

Wish I could have gone to see "Singin' in the Rain" on the big screen this week. I saw the first four-fifths of it on the big screen, but the revival house (back in the late 1970s) noticed something weird. The company that shipped out the film mixed up the last reel and sent out the ending of "An American in Paris" instead. So, somewhere around the Broadway Melody number, Gene ended up dancing with Leslie Caron around the water fountain.

We knew that going into the theater, and yet about 150 or so of us stayed. I think the theater showed it for free.

I recall  that print being beautiful, clean and in focus, perhaps not as alive with color as a Vincente Minnelli movie, but certainly not the critical claptrap that was quoted earlier.

People do judge a book by its coiffure.

Is that an epigram?

If it's hair related, I think it's an eppie-lederer.  (Sorry.)

Speaking of Singin' in the Rain:

Have we noted that Debbie Reynolds will be playing Liberace's mother in the new HBO film about Liberace's life.

She'll also be doubling as George Liberace's mother, I hear tell.

Great Filichia on Friday. I have a couple of borrowed books I haven't returned, but when I think of the things I've loaned out that haven't come back to me  (including the original vinyl of "Merrily We Roll Along"), I get grumpy.

Guess Friday the 13th wasn't good for Richard Zanuck:

I watched some of it using this link.  Soooo, SMASH is a musical soap opera.

Again, thank you for the link.

While orders have slowed to a trickle (three years ago this would have already sold out - maybe everyone thinks it will be on iTunes, which it won't - EVER - in this mix.  But interestingly, the trickle is consistent with three or four orders coming in every thirty minutes or so - I like that, and would be happy if that just continued until they're all gone.

Waiting for Juliana to arrive in about fifteen minutes, then we'll do the long drive to Costa Mesa - hoping the traffic isn't too crazy.

Today is my mother's 85th birthday. Wish I were in Louisville to celebrate with her, but I will give her a call later today. My sister is going in from Lexington for a visit with her son, so there will be some celebrating.

A Very Happy 85th Birthday for DR John G.'s Mother!! ;D
I also wish her a very Happy 85th!  I wish you could be with her as well.  :)

London is buzzing here with the Olympics fast approaching - especially for me because I live close to the Olympic site. Streets being cleaned up, fast road lanes being introduced, posters and sculptures going up.
Is it still pretty cold there?  Still need the heat?

I do think maybe DR Elmore should hop a plane and do some stomping and kicking in Dublin. How hard can it be to let someone know if you received something or not?

Well, tonight I'm off to my friends' house to see Abraham Lincoln vs. The Zombies on their patio movie screen (aka a sheet attached to the side of their garage).  Not sure if I'll actually stay for the movie, but I told the host I'd show up if he baked me a birthday cake....well, I don't know if they are going to do that, but I better go just in case they do

It's 12:45am in Dublin at this moment and those jerks haven't responded all day to my inquiry. Tomorrow I will send off a highly pissed email.

Home from camp.  I think I need a nap.  I'm definitely on theatre overload.  My brain hurts.

Tonight the DP and I are going to a German Beer Garden to soak up some culture before our trip in a few weeks.  I kinda just want to sleep.  But, we've been putting it off for a while.

That made me picture DR Elmore kicking up his heels and generally letting loose in the Dublin streets.
