Otherwise...

Thankfully, I left early this morning to head into DC for this morning's auditions with the intention of grabbing some breakfast before the auditions started. Alas, a trip that I thought would take about 45 minutes to an hour in the morning rush hour, ended up taking a full hour and a half. I pulled into the garage at 8:52am. The auditions started at 9:00am.

Who the frell holds singing auditions at 9:00am?!?!? you may be asking, well... Some of the gentlemen we called in are currently in rehearsal for another show, so we needed to make sure we could see them before their rehearsal today. The kicker: when they got their rehearsal call last night, they found out they weren't going to be needed until 3:30 today. When they shared that news with us this morning, the casting director and I let out a big AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!, however, it was good to get the casting session done, and to have the rest of our day freed up. -And it was a good casting session.

I'm listening to the BBC broadcast of MY FAIR LADY. Annalene as Liza at Ascot is really funny.

And since I had the rest of my day free, I decided to make a stop at The Market Lunch in Eastern Market for a late breakfast - Scrapple! That was followed by a stop at Peregrine Espresso for a cup of coffee (a micro lot pour over from El Salvador) and to check in with one of my favorite baristas/actors. Then it was over to the DC Local office of the AFM, and a stop at the AIDS Quilt display on The Mall...

Sadly, due to the weather, they had pulled up the panels, so there was no large display. However, they did continue reading the Names... And I volunteered to read a few pages of the Names.

I had been hoping to see the panel of my friend, Mark Wayne Gregory, but at least I got to mention his Name after I had read the pages I was given. -And it turned out that I got to read Keith Haring's Name.

Hello, DR Dear Lurker Iris!

I will not be the MD for The Trouble with Doug.

However, I will be the MD for Triangle. -Which happens to be the show I worked on at The Williamstown Theatre Festival six (seven?) years ago, and it's written by one of DR elmore's former office mates.

*You can buy tickets if you click on the link above. ;)

**And the show got picked up for NAMT's Festival of New Musicals this Fall too!

Those dust storms really are much more dramatic looking than they are dangerous. The only danger really is if you are driving and lose visibility.

Sherman Hemsley has died.

Farewell, George Jefferson!

Oh, that is sad. I can't actually say that he was ever a favorite of mine, but he certainly was a big part of my childhood and teen years.

I did not realize that he had never married.

DR Laura, I got stuck in a dust storm when I lived in Phoenix...I couldn't see a thing, so I pulled off the road (Camelback)...would not want to be on a freeway when it hits.

As for "my" My Fair Lady, I will be the Assistant Musical Director for the upcoming production back here in DC at Arena Stage. First day of rehearsal will be October 2.

But before I start rehearsals back in DC...

Yes. And I'm soooo happy to be reunited with the show again! It's gone through a bunch of changes since Williamstown, but there's still something about it that really moves me.

I planned a "loop" of a vacation for the last two weeks of September. I'm starting off with visits to Boston (where I was born) and Seattle (where I lived when I was nine). I haven't been back to Boston in about 20 years, and I haven't been back to Seattle since I was nine. While in Seattle, I will be spending some time with one of my aunts who, due to health issues, has not been able to travel lately. I haven't seen her in about 20 years either.

Then it will be on to Portland, San Francisco and Chicago for The Food! ;) *And it will be the opening weekend of Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. -A friend of mine is conducting, and I know a few people in the cast too. -And then I start rehearsals the day after I get back. Whew!

If you want to start planning... ;)

Boston - 9/14-17
Seattle - 9/17-21
Portland - 9/21-24
San Francisco - 9/24-27
Chicago - 9/27-30

*I also plan to bring along my new Brompton, and I hope to get one full day in each city to explore it by/on bike.
