I'm up - finally.  I awoke at four and couldn't get back to sleep until after five - but I did get eight hours so I'm not totally trashed.

Back from lunch and a motivational speech with the Butler County Development Roundtable, of which I'm now a member by virtue of being a fundraising volunteer with the Middletown Area Senior Center.

I've listened to Thomas Hampson's wonderful Cole Porter recording, spoken about THE GOLDEN APPLE to author Howard Pollack, author of the new Marc Blitzstein biography, worked with the AC men about the duct problem, and proofed several more pages of an interminable piano part. It's time to board a bus and head home.

And I sent Rodgers & Hammerstein a lot of photos from the recording sessions.

Well, I did ok, I guess. I am happy to report that I remembered all the words to The Pledge of Allegiance, I bowed my head during the opening prayer: "Dear God. Please make this year better than last year, and please let us all have fun;" and I sat respectfully during the recitation of The 4-H Pledge.

But I couldn't help but wonder: Why aren't these kids in school?

They loved the caterpillars I brought with me, they asked a lot of questions about tarantula hawks, and they were distracted by the turkey vulture circling over the field behind me.

And I guess the kids didn't want to snack on the caterpillars. Or whatever that turkey vulture had its eye on.

And I am home! Horrid traffic, long wait for a bus and two showed up. I resent the fact that schoolchildren ride free and that we paying passengers have to compete with them for standing space, or a seat. Put them on a damend school bus.

I didn't go to the Daily Grill today - but I did have the exact same sandwich elsewhere, so same 600 calories.  May do Daily Grill after rehearsal.

Picked up a couple of packages and an important envelope, did some banking, and now will wait for our mighty cast of players to arrive.

Someone in my building put a box of free CDs in the basement laundry room and I snaged some wonderful cds of 1950s hits, each cd has hits from a particular year.

Nice!!

Topic of the Day:

In my CD player right now at work:  Jazz At The Philharmonic: Seattle 1956...this is really good.  It was a sort of "lost" recording that only was rediscovered a few years ago and released just last year.

After that will be the world premiere recording of Sweet Little Devil.

This is why they weren't in a classroom, they were learning something interesting.

Good morning, all! I stayed up too late agan watching the convention. I'll crash around 3 again today.

I am off to Toyland; I have to wait for a repair crew to check out the office's AC problem (yes, Toyland, too!): the AC works but the duct that moves the cold air to all of the offices in our suite needs a fix.

DR Laura, throw a few four-letter words into your presentation. Or drop your notes, and say "goddam" as you pick them up. They will never ask you again. It never fails.

I got a nce email this morning from my close personal friend Stephen Rea, and that has me thinking that I want to see agan the 1970 filmed version of Chekhov's THREE SISTERS with Joan Plowright and Alan Bates.

TOD:
DVD: The Crying Game (again!), The Three Sisters, The Beggar Student
CD:  High Society (London, 1987), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Eileen, Guy Haines,
  VCR: Smut

Does Mr. Rea realzie how quickly you move from close personal friend to full-blown stalker?

So ... somehow I have gotten myself into a pickle. I have to give a talk to a bunch of people (mostly kids) this morning. How did I get myself into this?

Take Sandra along -  she can eat a plate for them
