For DR Jose and anyone else who may have noticed in last nights' photos from Seattle:

"Monkey" is a lot smaller than I thought.   Was he sick as a monkette?

I was just thinking the same thing. I always thought that monkey was much bigger until i saw the pic of DR Jose holding him.

Got the estimate for the landscaping project today.  I know I need to do it for erosion and keeping water from the house, but yikes. I have to think about it this weekend and pay a visit to the bank next week if I'm going to do it,  not liking that idea

Media Update

Blu-ray:  Just spot-checked RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and a few of the documentary features.  (Saw RAIDERS in Lie-Max last week so no need to watch again just yet.)

A fabulous release.  Top-notch all the way.

Luciano is no longer part of the dating pool.  A couple of hours ago, my kitchen sink backed up with lots and lots of purple water.  It turns out that Luciano and his roommates were canning a healthy supply of Kimchi and decided to put the excess purple cabbage down the garbage disposal.   Fortunately, the apartment manager and the assistant manager are friends of mine.  They just spent the last two hours snaking my kitchen sink

We finished watching THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and now I want to read the second and third books in the trilogy.  My book group read the first one a couple of years ago.

Good Evening!

And I just biked back to my hotel through the darkened streets of Portland, Oregon... It was kind of fun! -Even if I did have to stop a few times to regain my bearings. *I now have a new appreciation for the compass feature built into Maps.

Back from comping - we did seven more tonight and we'll do the final three on Sunday.  Two of the recorded songs won't be making the album.

Fun night with friends at a place out in the country listening to a group called the Almost Patsy Cline Band, which did more than Patsy's songs but in the same vein. Quite wonderful. Temperature in the low 70s. Good food. Good music.

Anyhoo...

When I headed out earlier, I biked over the river and through the neighborhoods to Pok Pok:

http://www.pokpokpdx.com/home

Pok Pok has become quite the foodie destination, and after dining there tonight, I have to agree with all of the press, good word of mouth, hype and press. I went ahead and ordered their Chef Andy Ricker's signature versions of classic Thai dishes:

Papaya Pok Pok
Ike's Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings
Sticky Rice

And I washed it all down with one of their Drinking Vinegars (yes, vinegar): Rhubarb. And I finished off the evening with a Whiskeysoda Float.

It was a great first meal in PDX.

This cracked me up.  Ho-Chunk Inc is the economic arm of the Winnebago tribe..  They are also mentioned in the mix for a land based casino here.   The whole land based (as opposed to our current riverboat) casino  is a big controversy, but their purchas of Terra Centre is very interesting

Quote
We just bought the largest building in Sioux City," Ho-Chunk CEO Lance Morgan told an audience in Lincoln, Neb., on Wednesday. "Basically, that's going to be called the Ho-Chunk Centre."

"We're not even moving in," Morgan said. "We're just putting our name on the top of it because we think it's gonna be cool."

The big treat of the evening was the spiced pumpkin ice cream. Reminded me of the pumpkin milk shakes at Taylor's Automated Refresher in Napa. Wonderful.

Roger Ebert thought much like you did,  BK, of "The Master." He writes:

Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" is fabulously well-acted and crafted, but when I reach for it, my hand closes on air.

Listening to a wonderful new CD of the film music of Arthur Benjamin and Leighton Lucas.  Then I get to listen to the first eight tracks of our new title - very excited.

You better go to bed Jose. You have a big day tomorrow.

And stop biking. People get killed that way.

If the sun comes out Saturday I will take you for a walk on the downtown waterfront. Great for people watching.

The sun is supposed to come out tomorrow. -And I plan to take my bike to Voodoo Doughnut in the morning too before you pick me up. I also want to check out the Portland Saturday Market.

*And I already took a bike ride along the waterfront. :P
