About a week or so ago, I asked if anyone could help me with making this 5 Way dinner.  I bought the Cincinnati Chili, but I don't know what kind of cheese to use, what kind of beans to use, and I don't know if just use the spaghetti plain, or with butter, or with cheese, or what.  The onion I can figure out myself.

Anyone?

Shredded cheddar should work fine for the cheese, the finer or fancy shred is better.

They use kidney beans, as I recall. I really don't like beans in chili, so IMHO it ain't necessary. (I felt at home when I moved to Texas and discovered that real Texans don't put beans in their chili, either.)

Spaghetti is plain, just drained. I prefer the angel hair or thin, but i know you can use any kind of spaghetti you like.

The hot sauce is something I can't really remember. I know it's not really hot, but it adds to the overall dish.

Thank you, John.

I was going to post on Facebook that I was going to have a 5 Way this weekend, but decided against it.

Or, as they sing in "Ballroom," "Five's a popular indoor sport."

I opted against the nap. Probably wouldn't sleep the night through.

I was shocked to read he and his wife separated just last year.

Me too.

I didn't even bother to take a nap today, but I did stay in bed until nine o'clock.

I wish I could have stayed in bed all day. I puttered around the apartment, wrote  few emails, listened to KISS ME KATE, counted all of the change in my change jars, and that was about it.

John, some lady on line was complaining how much money she spent to make the Cincinnati  chili from scratch, plus how much she spent for high quality hot dogs.  Where do the hot dogs come in to this recipe?

Uploading six of the seven mixes from last night, although I already know that I'm raising the volume of the strings on the first half of one song, so I mentioned that when I sent it.  I didn't send the seventh because my reliable memory kicked in while I was listening to it - I struggled with it last night and it still isn't to my liking, but I suddenly remembered that I had Lanny do a Hammond organ pass on one song - well, we have never heard that and this is the only song that makes sense, so I asked the engineer to go do some sleuthing and find it.  The tracks were not well labeled in NY and that's been a struggle, too.  Once we have that track added into that mix, it will give it what it's missing.

Earlier, I picked up an important envelope and no packages, then satisfied my craving for a Tom's bacon cheeseburger and onion rings.  I only ate half the onion rings.

Is Tom's the name of the drive-in?

DR TCB, my memory is cloudy but I believe you put the hot dog inside a bun and top it with the chili and cheese. The spaghetti, chili and cheese are a separate entity.

You are correct, Elmore. And it's called a coney. Not a fancy hot dog or bun.

The roses in the back yard have been particularly wonderful this year. I wonder if it's because I didn't cut them back in February.

DR TCB, for a 5-way you also need chopped onions.

I'll read the notes upon my return

With taxes due on October 15, I'll try to get you those notes for your return as soon as possible. Just make sure to get that postmark on Monday.

Finally!  Interesting choice of word!  That word's been on my mind a lot lately - there's a  poster on ATC by that name who makes interesting observations.

Watching Cabaret tonight, what with the TOD. Haven't seen it in at least 10 years.  Fosse was amazing.

Keith graduated from USC, as did my father, my uncle and a nephew.  Craig came close to going there when he decided on Carnegie Mellon instead.  I wanted him to go to SC.

Thanks. That's just one plant. There is another orange rose as well as one that is white, both of those are also in bloom.

Second, I go either way with beans.  With or without.  Doesn't matter.  I like it all.

For the rest:

The finest shred of cheddar you can manage.  And dice the onions pretty small.  If you like a hot sauce on the order of Tabasco, go for it.  The ones on the table in Skyline and Gold Star might not be that hot, but hey.

Third, a Mac & Cheese cookoff sounds like heaven.

Except for that one you pictured.  That's so typical of how people can ruin a comfort dish by trying to get fancy with it.

I have to credit BK's many mentions of it with getting me on a Mac & Cheese kick lately.  It was disappointing that last time at Joe Allen when they didn't have it, because the previous time it had looked so good.

Fifth (and I think this brings me up to date):

I didn't like the Cabaret film back in the day because all I'd expected and wanted was some representation of the stage musical.  I shall have to return to it eventually with a more mature pair of eyes.
