I have read both Sunday papers, had a bite to eat, and talked to my Mom on the phone.
I *so* miss the ritual of reading Sunday papers.
So why, you ask, do I not just do it? They're still out there, you know.
Two reasons - both local. In the past few years, the NY Times has just about priced itself out of all reason. Not only in regard to home deliveries out in the 'burbs, but, as I understand it, even on the streets of Manhattan. I love real newspapers more than I can say, but it got to a point where I had to say: no more. The other reason is that the distributor for out-of-town newspapers kept changing changing local carriers on me and delivery got really undependable.
In my last year or two in L.A., the Times was 25 cents daily, $1.00 Sunday. Perfect. And it was a beloved ritual to pick it up on a Sunday morning at the newsstand around the corner, or at the Mayfair Market along with my Van de Kamp cinnamon rolls, and enjoy it with my french press coffee on my little balcony. It was a shock to get here and find the NY Times at about twice that (I don't remember now), but now I'd be elated to have those prices back. It's just beyond belief.
