We just watched Remember the Day with Claudette Colbert and John Payne. It's a 1941 20th Century Fox film about a young boy who has a crush on his teacher (CC). She falls in love with, and marries, John Payne and the boy goes on to great things. It was a really nice piece.

This will NOT do, oh, no, this will NOT do and I'd say we'd best get a frenzy or three happening.

Had a lovelier than lovely dinner with dear reader ChasSmith and Sami and Sarah Staitman and their mom.  The original choice of restaurant was, of course, Genghis Cohen, but the Staitmans had an event Sarah had to go to so we stayed in the Valley and went instead to The Smoke House.

ChasSmith had driven by it but had never been there so it was a perfect choice.  He seemed very happy with his food, too.  We, of course, had the garlic cheese bread to start and it was so popular with our populace that we had to do a second order - the girls actually went batty for it.  I had a cup of clam chowder as did ChasSmith.  I was going to order the combo Louie but they don't do it anymore - just a shrimp Louie, so instead I had a medium-sized cut of prime rib and it was out of this world yummilicious - instead of a potato I had creamed spinach, also great.  Sami had their ribs, and she finished all of them and loved them.  Sarah ordered the Monte Cristo but she didn't like it, so I asked the waitress (a 50 year veteran of the Smoke House) if she could get the small cut of prime rib instead - Sarah had tasted mine and loved it and they are very gracious there.  In fact, the manager came by and said he hadn't been happy with the Monte Cristos in a few weeks and asked Sarah specifically what she hadn't liked and she said the bread, rather than being crispy, was soggy.  The manager was grateful to hear it and said he would make sure the chef knew.

For dessert it was their creme brűlée.  Just a whole ton of fun and it was great to see ChasSmith, and I hope we can have one more meal before he leaves.

Watching Whit Stillman's "Damsels in Distress." It's really charming. For a movie with tap-dancing suicidal college students in it.  ;)

I found enough coconut lovers at work today and got rid of one box of candies. Ah, such hard work.

LOVED the Smoke House!  No joke.  My kind of place, all the way.  And of course the company was superb.  Thank you, BK, for a great get-together.

I believe photographic evidence was duly collected; however, the only piece of it residing on my phone is a lovely shot of some Garlic Cheese Bread.

The Smoke House sounds familiar.  I wonder if I have eaten there?  Where is it located?

I have never heard of that film, John.

Came and went at the theaters all too quickly. It's about a group of college women and the men who distress them. It is both humorous and serious. And it's very much Whit Stillman. If you ever saw "Metropolitan," "Barcelona," or "Last Days of Disco," this fits right in.
