It's called the television. I've had it on all day.

The Hudson Valley Weather page on FB is providing me with the most informative information than I'm finding on the news links.  If only it extended to Silver Spring, Maryland.

I can't remember the last time other than an awards show when I've had normal television on.

Here's the story on the building at 8th Avenue and 15th Street.

Wow!  That was great to read everyone got out in time.

It's called the television. I've had it on all day.

DR Elmore, those of us not in New York are relying on national news sources that aren't very specific about locations in Manhattan.  There was a report on NBC Nightly News about the dangling crane being high atop "one of New York's busiest streets" and the building where the facade collapsed being "about 30 blocks south of here."

None of Manhattan is powerless, as far as I know, except possibly the areas closest to the battery or the Hudson River. No on's reported power being out. The only injury reported was a stupid jogger went out for a run and a tree branch fell on her.

I haven't seen any indication that the power is out.  Interesting.  I saw this photo of Lower Manhatten

Yeah, I knew it was 57th, either from here or from Twitter, by the time I heard Brian Williams' report.  CNN has much better coverage.

According to the tv news, which is all that's playng on the ABC station, the crane has been providing problems for some time and this collapse is the latest. I hope they can bring it down before something awful happens.

The area of the Battery is flooded.  I'm sure it's true of all the evacuated areas.

I don't think so. I'm not going hear the window and we're on higher ground.

There was a pounding on our door acouple of hours ago and it was oneof our neighbors  shouting about embers onthe roof

we ran out to see that the tree across the street had tangled in the power lines and started to catch fire - the firey embers were blowing towards our house and landing on our roof

fortunately the house DID NOT catch fire

the wire fell in the street and began sparking  and flaming and making loud banging noises -  we called the fire dept and  the power went out and a  cop showed up

he closed off the street with some yellow hazard tape  and sat there until the power company must have shut down the transformer (remotely) because the sparking flaming and banging stopped

but no power truck showed up nor any fire truck

No flooding on West 82nd Street. Of course, it may be different at West 82nd street and West End Avenue, but I doubt it. The park is on lower ground.

Compared to a fire losing your power doesn't sound so bad.  What a scare that must have been.
