Today is supposed to be warm but the cold is coming sometime later today with thunderstorms etc.  So this morning I got an early start on my yard work.  Got the front by the road raked and put out a lot of grass seed.  The drought killed a lot of the yard, but this part died before the drought got really bad.  Then I hauled in three bags of softener salt (40# each) and raked out the leaves in the storm sewer drains in the street.  Now I'm resting.  I wanted to put up plastic in the windows today, but it's already a bit windy and that makes it a pain in the butt, so I'll just clean out the eaves on the garage and call the outside work done.

you know we have some roof shingles what need replacing , a fence to repair and siding to put back on , wanna stop by next weekend?  The keys'll be in the mailbox

I would love to, but I don't think you'd be happy with the results.  I'm not very good at the actual construction work

Well, the wind calmed to a dead calm so I decided to start doing the plastic on the windows.  I got the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room done.  They are the north side main floor windows so I'm really glad I got them done.  I also climbed up on the roof of the garage and got the eaves I could reach cleaned out. Whew!   Then the best part of such a day...the shower!   As I was finishing up and putting things away the clouds started rolling in.  80% chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Just in time!!  I'm always amazed at what you do.  DR Danise seems to be handy around the house as well, just not enough to build a new one ;)

Thanks. I knew when I bought an old house to live alone in I would be doinga lot of work myself.  I really hate some of it and love some of it, but it all has to be done, so I just do it

Watching one of the most terrifying movies I've ever seen - The Girl - courtesy of Jrand.  Horrifyingly bad.  The home grown DVD froze about fifty minutes in - maybe that's a sign, but I'll try to slog through on another player.

Bruce I don't know how you could suffer the full 50 minutes.  I would take that as an omen and stop watching ;D

I am home from the Lincoln Center White Light Festival presentation of Ireland's Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre in their latest production, RIAN, for eight dancers and five musicians playing harp, piano, harpsichord, penny whistle, concertina, pipes, mandolin, violin, and a variety of percussion. It was quite interesting and some of it quite dazzling.

And coincidentally I just finished MARNIE -- showed it to someone who had never seen it.  Lots of fun.  This was still the DVD, which looked fantastic.  (I believe it's one of the several screwed up in the Blu-ray transfer?)

Outside of Manhattan Marshall's and TJ Maxx may be OK but the stores here in the city are for s*** I don't need to go to them again. I will wait until we are on Long Island for Thanksgiving and go to Target for socks. I'm not going up to 116th Street and FDR to the only Target in Manhattan. It's not worth the subway way and 10 minute walk.

Now Ben has used the "S" word!

It's a beautiful day in Manhattan. It's in the 50s and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60s! How long will this glorious weather last? I hope it lasts long enough for the unload of our annual volunteer work on November 30th.

I have been in and out all day since about 9am and I have to go out again because I need socks. I will go to Marshall's and/or TJ Maxx in the Bed Bath and Beyond Complex to see what they have. The problem is (which I've talked about many times) I have small feet (size 6) and it's hard to find shoes and socks. That's why I hate shopping so much. It's hard to find anything that fits!!! But, there are other people who have much worse problems than finding socks that fit so I'll shut up.

I'm looking forward to the days off for Thanksgiving. My office closes early and because I go in early I will leave even earlier (around 11:30am). I will do nothing but eat, sleep and see friends on Long Island.

When you find something you like buy a couple of extra pairs.  I would think you could find socks on line.

And if you are a member of Amazon Prime, you can get all of that stuff sent to you with no shipping charges.  Prime has been a real Godsend to me, since I can't get out and shop on my own.

I got up at eleven and read e-mails, one of which was from the person to whom I was going to send the e-mail.  She'd read what she considered to be a "venomous" series of posts directed at her on Facebook.

I was confused at first and then realized she meant on your FB page, not that you had posted on her page.  You didn't hide that from her then-groan.  It was almost as good as sending her the email.

I didn't know you could hide posts from people on Facebook.  I can think of a few thousand political posts I would have liked to have hidden from me!

One thing about working for the county, you get the flu shot for free.  We got ours back in late September.

I didn't notice any real side effects.  A sore arm and I noticed I felt like I was starting to come down with the flu but it never went into full blown flu.  That happens every year.

I do have some news I can share.  I got a call from Sergio (the contractor) and he said Lowes will be coming out to the house on Monday and will measure the kitchen!  I don't know what will come of that--my choices as to what I want-- but I'm hopeful!

I don't know if you all knew that I was told that Lowes was out of the picture for awhile there.  I mentioned it when I went to my local store and was told I should contact customer care.  I did and told them the entire story.  Next thing I knew corporate was involved and they really do want to help.  I don't think telling the AC part hurt.

This could be the BEST holiday season I've had in a very, very, very (that's 3 very's) long time.   ;)

Now that could be the answer to a great many of my prayers!

Had a hankering for a Portuguese wafer made with lemon zest and oil-cured olives. It's both sweet and salty, and I love them. So, they're baking right now.

What a coincidence!  I was just hankering for a Portuguese thingie myself.

Greetings from the west side of Lima, OH!  We just had dinner with the Bishop and his wife and the family of the baby who will be baptized tomorrow.  The guest of honor slept through the entire meal.

What a good baby.

Oohhhh, the baby.  I thought she meant Richard.

Judged another day of college forensics. I heard some very interesting speeches.

Long day and I am worn out...

Every time I read that I imagine you conducting an autopsy on some  some poor deceased students

Had a cobb salad and a bagel earlier and am now kind of hungry.  Perhaps a Popeye's chicken breast - I could do one of those without doing any damage at all.

Or maybe I'll just get some funky foods at Gelson's.  It was really quite chilly today.  When I first went to Jerry's Deli at 1:45 there was not a single booth or table available - ridiculous.  I came back an hour later and got a not-wonderful booth.  I asked why when there's NEVER anyone in this place on a Saturday at that time was it jammed up - the reply?  "When it's cold out everyone comes and has soup."  The shropshire sheep of Studio City never cease to amaze.  I could have probably gone directly to Hugo's and gotten right in, since there's no soup there.
