Back from a great but long day of shooting, a little dinner, and the lovely discovery that my Paypal debit card has been compromised. The good news is we know EXACTLY who compromised it - Dino's Pizza's driver, who delivered our pizzas today. No other candidate and since Dino's was completely willing to give us the guy's personal information it's pretty clear. I'm going to the police tomorrow and will not rest until that lowlife peckerwood is in jail. The card was used to make a purchase of just under 400 bucks in a liquor store in Brooklyn. I got on the phone with Paypal and they stopped the card. Last year when this happened I was issued a new card IMMEDIATELY. But now Paypal has all kinds of strict new security things in place - I had to enter a new cc into their system so my address could be verified. That happened, but they also need me to fax a copy of my bank statement to them, which, of course, I can't do till tomorrow. Meanwhile my Paypal account has had some limitation put on it until they get that document. Once they have it, they should restore everything to normal and only then can I request the new card. The supervisor I finally spoke to assured me that if I get the document in first thing in the morning, it will probably get straightened out at some point tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I'm without my key debit card for at least two weeks, maybe four, which is a first-class disaster. So, I'm going to transfer almost everything in the Paypal account into the bank account until this is all resolved. They did do an immediate refund of the bogus charge. To say I am infuriated and frustrated would be the understatement of the year. The joke is, I said to my production assistant as I handed her the card, "I really don't want to give this card this way." I shouldn't have and will NEVER do that again!
Update: Supervisor called back - I really think he heard my anger and frustration, because he got them to not need me to fax anything, and so we went in and applied for the new debit card right then and it should be here in a couple of weeks, or hopefully sooner. He also said he's putting a twenty-five dollar credit in my account, and the account is now back to normal status. WHAT an ordeal!
