Well, you've read the notes, the notes did the Turkey Lurkey, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing the Turkey Lurkey having finished with the Cow Cow Boogie.

TOD: Cy Coleman. I wrote a paper on him back in the first college go-round. I think it would be fun to do more research.

Been to the opticians to have my glasses repaired.

Shops are tremendously busy everywhere and of course will be up until Christmas. It's also difficult to get into cafes and restaurants.

I read the comments yesterday about TAXI DRIVER. I saw it when it was first released in 1976 and thought it a tremendous, powerful film – one of the best ever portrayals of urban alienation. Before the film started, the Main Title music was played, in the manner of an Overture. At that time I wasn’t into film music - didn’t know who scored the film and knew nothing about Bernard Herrmann. On hearing the music in the auditorium as a prelude to the film I though it sounded awful! Fortunately my film music horizons expanded and I now love Herrmann’s music, including that score – which became one of the first soundtracks LPs I bought.

i was in Barnes and Noble last night and one of their featured DVDs was

RADIO CITY MUSICAL CHRISTMAS SHOW.

Does DR ELMOORE have any of his orchestrations heard in this release?

DR Doug R, that's interesting about the title music being played as an overture.  And for this film, of all things.  Do you recall the theater doing that with other films then?

I also wonder how they did it -- play the LP?  Even that sounds odd now, but if I remember correctly, Stanley Kubrick sent out an LP to play from for BARRY LYNDON so I guess it wasn't unusual for the projection booth to include a turntable.

Herrmann's TAXI DRIVER score thrilled me like nothing else.  Those incredible intense chords, with the crescendos and decrescendos, almost scary.  And then the seductive sax/jazz sections.  When OBSESSION came around later that year, I hate to admit being a little bored with that in comparison.

When I came into the office at 6:30 it wasn't doing anything. A colleague has just come in and he said it's lightly misting/snowing in Manhattan.

Speaking of LPs, I know I'll sound like a broken one, but it's tragic that we here won't be able to see this rendition of Turkey Lurkey.

TRAGIC.

It's a TRAGEDY.

The Mall on Long Island was mobbed on Friday but one day later it was easily navigable. We were going to go to Barnes & Noble on Friday but the line of cars to get in the Mall was daunting so we passed. Instead we went to Home Depot, Best Buy and Target (where I purchased my new phone). We should have bought the wall mount kitchen sink faucet at HD on LI because they don't have it in stock in the city. We don't need to replace it immediately but we need to get a new one. The super will install it when we get it and he will also fix the toilet.

Oy!  Of all days, this is when the guy wants to deliver firewood.  Which means he'll dump it in the snow and I'll have to cover it as best I can till I can schlep it around the house to where it's kept in the rack.  And I can't tell him to try another day -- he's hard enough to schedule deliveries with and I could end up waiting weeks or have to look elsewhere.  What a pain in the bloomin' arse.

Good morning, all! I was thrilled to see this morning that DR TCB and I are honorary Jews on HHW. I thank you, BK, for that compliment. It's made my day!  Thirty-three years ago, when I moved to New York, I think I knew one word of Yiddish and had been friends with maybe, at most, five Jews in my life - the Cohen boys, the Zollett twins, and a college oommate.  I think it's all a part of becoming an authentic New Yorker.

So, today I am off to Toyland.  I have to stock up on bottled water for the fridge there - big meeting on Thursday! - and hopefully get through a couple of ROBERTA charts.

For all of you writers on HHW, I think my idea about the vampires in the apartment above me is a great idea, so you'd better run with it before I sell it to Hollywood.

More coffee!

I don't think so. I did the 1998 edition, and I don't think any of that remains in the current show.

Freidkin's remake of Wages of Fear called Sorcerror had an overture or as he put it mood setting music. It went on and on and people started to complain so it was cut short and they put the movie on. I think I saw one of the first showings that day. by the end of the first week it had been dropped.
