Friday morning greetings!  I have a haircut today, followed by some errands.  Then I get to come home and stay the rest of today and tomorrow, which I really need because this week has been quite busy.  Looking forward to getting started on decking the halls.

TOD:
DVD: Saphead with Buster Keaton

Buster Keaton is my favorite silent comedian. I've seen all of his features theatrically - there used to be an arthouse cinema in London which had regular seasons of his films. Nothing like that exists now though.
No. There's nothing here like that, either, at least not on a daily basis. The local public radio station does show a classic once a month on the big screen.

Keaton is my favorite, too. This Kino disc is strange. Apparently, it has an alternate cut of the movie in the extras, so it'll be interesting to watch it twice from different angles.

ChasSmith, I think colorized versions are being marketed because there is a whole generation coming up that refuses to watch anything in black and white. Their loss.

That situation is probably much worse than any of us care to know.  It goes without saying for kids today, but I recently discovered that a couple of my friends who are in their THIRTIES grew up with that prejudice against black and white movies and TV shows.  I hadn't been much aware of it because they happen to be a couple of the lucky ones who had some outside influences who taught them to fight that impulse and just watch.

The only colorized version of a film that I really liked was SHE - the 1935 version with Randolph Scott.  It took me a few minutes to get used to it - but the subject was ethereal enough to withstand the "enhancement."

The colorized episodes of I Love Lucy are abominations.

However - if you are an I Love Lucy fan, I would recommend that now and then you watch an episode or two with the closed captions on - they are very cleverly done.....

Good point, and thanks for the heads up on that, DR Jrand62.

There are some amazingly good subtitles and closed captions out there.  They can not only come in very handy for clarifying something now and then (they're a godsend on WIRED, for instance), but they can be just plain fun and enjoyable to watch sometimes.

Here's a question for anyone familiar with the musical ADRIFT IN MACAO:

I'm stepping in for someone and playing auditions for a local production, and I know not one note of this one.  The theater doesn't happen to have a score in hand at the moment, so I'm looking at a PDF of it and I've got the CD to listen to.  Which songs are people most likely to audition with?  I want to make sure I'm comfortable with the sound and feel of the most important ones.

I didn't realize there was a recording.

The Pearl Brewery is a magnificent old campus that was abandoned in the 1990s and is now being resurrected as the location of the Culinary Institute of America as well as a handful of other restaurants, shops and apartments. The renovations have been going on for about five or six years now, and it's been exciting to watch. This is the first year I can remember them decorating the main building, which will be transformed into a luxury hotel in a year or two:

You know what I would LOVE? For BK to make a cabaret show for Donny. Just Donny. Thank you.

Will you be getting tickets for this?

I should have continued reading before asking, especially since I was pretty sure of your response.

Because nothing says Happy Hanukkah quite like "I'll have another!" By the way, this charming game was situated across the aisle from Bacon Candy Canes.

Coldest day of the winter so far. I had to scrap the ice off the car. Then, when I moved off, I had this crazy cyclist ahead of me weaving from side to side of the road whilst reading something on a piece of paper which he was holding with one of his hands.

This gentleman needs to try that sometime with BK following him.

;D I need tips from BK on how to deal with people like that.
