THE VIEW FROM ARLETA
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:11:01 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Arleta and the end of November, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently in Arleta wondering what the HELL happened.

Good morning, all!

The meeting was indeed a long one yesterday, and I didn't get home until 7 pm.  This morning I have a trek to City Center to see what is waiting for me from SUPERMAN. I believe Joshie old me the band reading is on Dec 20 so I've got a lot of work on this in the next couple of weeks.

More news later.  More coffee now.

In 90 minutes I will be at the Actors Equity Building on 46th Street in Manhattan to begin the load in for the volunteer bag packing project (I've been doing it for 15 years this year).

That's all for now.

I just saw a news story about Offcer Lawrence DePrimo of the NYC police force. It's really wonderful:

If we have any fans of "Do I Hear a Waltz?" here is a half-hour TV show with Richard Rodgers as well as Elizabeth Allen and Sergio Franchi doing a good chunk of the solo numbers from the show.

Just heard the news, and it's official:  2012 has been the shortest year in recorded history.

I might have to go back to school to relearn how to set a clock radio.  Here's what you have to do for a successful wakening:  TURN THE VOLUME UP.  Had mine set for 6:30 AM because I had to get out of here by 7:00 to drop my car off at the dealer for three big jobs which will take several hours today, and for which they provided me a loaner.  Well, the damn music, whatever it was, was creeping into my dream a little bit, but it was about ten minutes before I gained a bit of consciousness and recognized it for what it was.  Close call, there.  So anyway, here I am, car dropped off "across the highway from the COWS", and back home eating a very nice homemade egg sandwich on rye with my third cup of coffee.

Coldest day of the winter so far. I had to scrape the ice off the car. Then, when I moved off, I had this crazy cyclist ahead of me weaving from side to side of the road whilst reading something on a piece of paper which he was holding with one of his hands.

Buster Keaton is my favorite silent comedian. I've seen all of his features theatrically - there used to be an arthouse cinema in London which had regular seasons of his films. Nothing like that exists now though.

This gentleman needs to try that sometime with BK following him.

CD - Miklos Rozsa Orchestral Works Vol 3 (Chandos label)

Blu - CARNAGE - I'm a huge admirer of Polanski's films but I hated this. I didn't find it at all funny - in fact I sat stony faced throughout. No doubt it worked well on stage but I couldn't see the point of it as a film, or why Polanski wanted to make it. A good cast, certainly, although I wasn't so keen on Jodie Foster's performance. I'm glad I only rented it.

CD - THIS CHRISTMAS - yes, again, while doing a little decorating last night.  And btw I sold a copy -- friend will be placing her order later today.

DVD - HOLIDAY INN - just out of curiosity, watched the Legend-colorized version.  Oy!!!  This was entirely experimental, of course, I'd never seriously watch any such thing.  But it's just crazy for anyone to think that, even if colorizing a particular piece of film might be desirable for some bizarre reason, that it can actually work.  I doubt it can ever be made to work.  Even if managing flesh tones can someday be figured out, since that challenge kills the whole idea from the get-go.  I could go on.  Oh yes, how I could go on.  But that's enough energy spent on this subject.

BLU - Tonight's pleasure will be GYPSY, straight through.

More later, no doubt, as there's always plenty to ketchup on.

The "Miracle on 34th Street" DVD that I bought the other day has a disc with a colorized version in it. Don't think I can bring myself to watch it.

I have a couple of the releases of Ray Harryhausen films that have the colorized version included, and haven't looked at those, either.  I really wonder why these are being marketed today.
