I heard that it opens in a week and a day but don't quote me on that. The rumors are rampant that it might open on 12/25 or the week before New Years Day or the day before Boxing Day but no one seems to know for sure.

My supervisor has just learned that his son's school is in a lockdown because of a threatening phone call. I hope this doesn't become pandemic.

All of the parents have been told not to head to the school, but, of course, that is what he and the rest of the parents are doing. Who could help it?

I won't believe it until I see it for myself.

Re:  Comments yesterday about Fred Phelps and Westboro.  It would be nearly impossible for anyone to kill Fred Phelps, I think, because he (purportedly) died earlier this year.  In fact, all the Westboro carryings-on are now being led by his daughter Anita.

Most of the members are in/of the same family.  Probably a lot more "in-breeding" than most of us could imagine.

Sorry for being e&t this weekend, it was a long one.  The show is down, and what a run it was!  I might actually miss it and will look forward to next year's show.

Christmas in South Carolina, Part 3:

Well, it's Monday and I've been in South Carolina for five days.  Yesterday, we had the Christmas Cantata at the Johnston Baptist Church.  The preacher's wife is the unofficial choir leader (with a small stipend) since the church cannot afford a full-time person any longer.

Her program was fine, for the most part.  She included two juicy solos for herself, only one of which was welcome by me.  The first was too ambitious and the syntax was challenging.  It was too hard to follow the "thought" in the lyrics...another instance of a trained singer in love with her voice sacrificing the song for her pipes.

The program, however, was pleasing overall and no harm done.   Last night, we attended the Children's Christmas party.  There were far more of us older folks than children, but the children are the reason for the season, as they say, and we had a visit from Santa and all the children got to sit on his lap, have a picture made and each got a gift bag.

The rest of us sat around and ate finger foods...pimiento cheese sammiches, ham and cheese sammiches, chicken salad sammiches, etc.  There were various kinds of chips, a cheesy dip of some sort (Mexican-inspired, I believe), meatballs and various/sundry desserts including lime cake and red velvet cake.

The event started at 6 p.m.  My mom and I were back home by 6:55 p.m.

We then spent the evening watching the "Survivor" finale and futzing around with various things while waiting for it to start.

This morning, I washed two small loads of clothes.  My mom is baking our annual Rum Cake ("my" rum cake, actually).

Otherwise, it's overcast, sporadically rainy and a fine day to stay home.  We'll play more SkipBo  this afternoon after my mom's soaps.

Tomorrow a.m., we're off to Aiken for shopping and lunch at Red Lobster.  Some huge sales are taking place this week...many items at 70 percent off.

More later, as things develop.

Monday morning afternoon greetings!  I've been out and about, getting a blood test, mailing a package to my sister, and odds 'n' ends shopping at Starbuck's and Michael's.  It's kind of foggy here in SW Ohio today, but not very cold.

I'm back from a Christmas lunch party. I wasn't sure whether I'd make it because I've had a terrible cold for the past week. I had champagne sorbet, Ham hock terrine, roast turkey and profiteroles. I'm now bloated and need to lie down. I'm having to pass on a party this evening which I can't cope with after the lunch.

Glad the rest of the shows went well, Matthew.

Ham hock terrine. Yum.

As you can tell, I'm hungry today. Well, every day.  :D

Well, one more detail to come out of this morning's lockdown at the local school: The caller was on the phone with the school for an entire half hour making his or her threats. That's just strange. In the movies, the call would have been traced in that time, right? I realize life isn't a movie, but that image does give us some expectations.

Craig said the elementary school he works at has been having lockdown drills since the DC sniper, plus the doors are all locks at 9:45.

In Connecticut I keep reading the school locked up at 9:30, the same time the shooter arrived. :(
