Oscar Hammerstein is largely to blame for the mess that is "Pipe Dream." He didn't trust Steinbeck or Steinbeck's people. It's a shame, too, because it could have been really good.

Fish sticks and dark chocolate cherry almond clusters. Works for me.

Does anyone still eat fish sticks?  Do they even make such a thing anymore?  Fish sticks were quite popular with the populace when I was growing up.

Steinbeck apparently said to Hammerstein: “You’ve turned my prostitute into a visiting nurse!”

I think we should all turn our prostitutes into visiting nurses, don't you?

It's true and that makes it all rather embarrassing.

I'm havin' a party and those who are sitting on their collective hands are party poopers with an emphasis on the latter.

Works for me. Do visiting nurses still make house calls?

They're setting off tons of fireworks next door. Glad it rained. Before today, it had been really dry.

I love the first part of HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN, especially the songs.  However, once he meets up with the ballerina and her husband, I truly despise the rest of the film.  [SPOILER ALERT!]  When Farley Granger locks Danny Kaye in the closet, and leaves him there so that he misses the ballet, I just about lose it.  And then the ballerina and her husband laugh it off.  [END OF SPOILER ALERT]  That is when the whole film becomes nasty, meanspirited, humiliating, and Yes, even smarmy.

Other than that, the film is fine.  And it is a dumb ballet.

And I now have to go on a tuna pasta salad hiatus for about two months.

Fish sticks are still around. Don't know if they're Mrs. Paul's, though.

Yes, Hans Christian Andersen is perfectly agreeable up to the time he meets those wretched people.  It's hard to know what Moss Hart was thinking, other than The Red Shoes had been quite a hit.

Farley Granger locking Danny Kaye in a closet. Now there's a sentence Freud could have fun with.

I could use a visiting nurse right about now.  That's one of my resolutions: More visiting nurses.

Fish sticks are what we had in the school cafeteria every Friday throughout...I don't know how many years.  Elementary, maybe junior high, too?

Not that I've ever been with a prostitute, although I don't profess to know the complete history of everyone I've ever gone out with.

Yes, fish sticks were a school staple.  They were kind of vomit-inducing but I liked to make little things with them on the plate.
