I thought LINCOLN was most excellent.

I did not understand ONE WORD the kid playing Tad said......and sometimes Daniel Day-Lewis seemed to be channeling Walter Brennan.....but it all in all was MOST EXCELLENT....

Did a lot of futzing and fixing yesterday's pages, then wrote five new pages.  Now it's time for our little rehearsal, after which I'll probably go get a sandwich.  I'll do another few pages later in the afternoon.

Re BARNUM (note: not the DR)...  I was surprised, too, that a high school would tackle this, but apparently it isn't all that uncommon, including the tightrope.  They're going to build the already large stage out over the orchestra pit area (orchestra's on stage for this) which will give them a great space for the circus venue.

I rememeber that Joe Layton and David Mitchell originally wanted to have Dale sail off in a hotair balloon from the stage and up over the audience at the end of the first act, but scrapped that idea because the insurance would have been astronomical.  I don't think that would have impressed me as much as the tightwalk walk.

I agree.  I would then have expected the second act to be THE WIZARD OF OZ.

Today I am having lunch with a buddy of mine who I have not seen in ages. We worked together in retail almost 20 years ago.

He now works as a biology teacher and football coach, which normally would mean we'd have absolutley nothing in common to talk about. Still, it should be fun to catch-up.

Maybe he can pimp out a football player for you and you can pretend the kid is 75 years old.

Now hold on, elmore; the coach may be 75.

Thursday evening greetings from Russell Square!  Our 7:30 flight finally left Newark at 11pm last night.  The delay actually worked in our favor, hotel-wise.  If we'd arrived on time at 7am we would have had a lot more time before our room was ready.  As it turned out, we checked our luggage at the hotel and just had time for lunch and a look at our immediate surroundings.  Naps and showers later, we're at Starbucks for wi-fi, which costs an arm and a leg at the hotel.

I am glad you arrived safely.  Have a wonderful time.

I have now been retired for one year.  Sometimes it seems more like five years, and other times it seems like yesterday.

I believe DR Jane watches (or watched) it.  I caught an episode by mistake last week, and I ended up really enjoying it.  I guess you don't have to worry about Holmes and Watson sleeping together.  At times, they can hardly stand each other.

What else has Jonny Lee Miller done?  I liked seeing Aidan Quinn in the show.

He was the lead in the short-lived "Eli Stone."

AND he was the first Mr. Angelina Jolie.

Thanks. I was getting my memories of him in both confused, thinking they were one performance.

From Bruce:
Quote
Finished with my viewing - Looper - the first forty minutes gave me a big headache trying to figure out just who was doing what to whom and why, but once it kind of became clear (in its way) then it was enjoyable on a certain level.

That about sums up our reaction.

Glad to see you are settled in.

We flew last night with several 20-somethings who were very impressed with themselves because they were on their way to England for graduate study.  Wouldn't they be surprised to learn that this gray-haired couple is here for the same reason?

You should have told them. ;)
