I have only 13 pages left to read of THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES.  I've enjoyed the book far more than I expected to.  I should have read this years ago.

 Oh I love that book - although the first story about the couple and the wife's visions is by far my favorite

We saw a poster  for it at the movie theatre yesterday and today we saw a preview for it

Sat through a wonderful 5-1/2 hour opera (LES TROYENS) today.  Incredible cast.  

Might have to miss the MARIA STUARDA next, but am greatly looking forward to the Las Vegas (yes, Las Vegas) RIGOLETTO that follows.

Well, TCB, you'll be pleased to note that the Sparkle remake doesn't hold a candle to the original, and the script is particularly horrible.

That is what I read the most. That the script was awful.

I do love Gilbert and Sullivan operettas though

The local paper was full of suggestions as to where we on Long Island we could have authentic British, beers,  pub food, high tea

Don't you already have "authentic British" in your household, Vixmom? As for the beers, pub food, and high teas, I wouldn't know.

I do have me an authentic Brit  in residence - and we have our Christmas crackers and make tea every day in our Brown Betty .  We keep a goodly supply of Branston pickle, HP sauce and pickled onions in the cupboard

I am known to make a trifle with Birds custard from time to time and a do make lovely  steak and mushroom  pies,  chicken pies and shepherd's pie  (if I do say so myself)

I have not yet mastered scones and haven't a clue as to how to make  or where to buy clotted cream  for high tea - though I supposed I could rustle up some cucumber sandwiches in a pinch

No steak and kidney pie?  That's a relief.

There was one change in the plot of Sparkle that works for the better, but overall, it's not worth the bother, except for the the Whitney gawkers.

we used to have flaming christmas pudding with hard sauce -  but  no body really liked it , including  Vixdad so we gave it

but I still treasure my brother's comment the first time I brought it to the table -  all the lights out and the flaming pudding in all it's glory  place on the table
