started thinking of RR movies -- Butch Cassidy, The Sting , the Great Gatsby

What is the name of the one where he is a ski champion.
Was that "Downhill Racer'? or am I thinking of another ski movie?

Yes, that is the correct one.  A group of us used to gather and watch it on TV, just for the one scene where he comes out of the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel.

The script was just terrible, even though it was fairly close to the novel. But then again, what's good about the novel isn't the story. It's the sentences. Fitzgerald writes just beautiful sentences. And there's nothing dramatic in that.
