DR MBARNUM, it's supposed to be in the high thirties here tonight. It was quite chilly today. We had a high of 53--cold for us--with a bit of wind. I saw several people in shorts. I had on a turtleneck, a wool sweater, and a short jacket.

I had a neighbor in Virginia who even wore shorts when it snowed.

I don't believe I've ever had a patty melt. I know I've never had a Reuben.

When I was attending UCLA it was a real treat to go the the Hamburger Hamlet in Westwood Village. I thought this was the best food I'd ever had, certainly the best hamburger by a long shot. There are lots of gourmet hamburgers now, but I do agree with DR Chas that HH's were exceptional.

Chas, have you ever been to The Counter? It's a chain out here. Burgers, fries, drinks--that's it. But VERY good. I LOVE their veggie burgers!

I prefer a good hamburger medium rare, but if I'm not sure where the meat has been processed and ground, I don't order anything other than medium-well. Maybe this is why I'm preferring my own burgers lately. I know that the it's grass-fed beef and the processing plant was clean, so I can make my burgers the way I want them.

How would you know where the meat is from? I can understand your desire to make your own burgers.

There may not be any in your area, Chas. If you find one, do check it out. I think you'd like it.

There's one in West Hartford that would be less than an hour away.  And in Times Square.  I didn't even know about this place.

Chas, do you find you're spending more $$$ on CDs and DVDs now that you're a regular here? It often has that effect.

I'm a fan of veggie burgers, so I did a little research.

And yet the Marigold Hotel movie has no acting nominations at all - and I can't seem to find any evidence that the FILM has any nominations at all - sorry, it's beautifully written and should at least have an adapted screenplay nomination.

A fine question.  Some, yes, though I daresay I'd be doing just fine bankrupting myself all the same.  But there's no question that between the folks on HTF whose taste and judgment I trust, and the same from the good folks here with so many similar interests, there's no shortage of good ideas and good suggestions and just plain good exposure to new and old things alike to discover and appreciate.

EDIT:  What a horrible sentence.  Tried to clean it up and only made it worse.

Anyhoo...

Just for fun, and to add to our collective list of woes, I went to pick up something very heavy a while ago and pulled a muscle in my back.  I've done that a couple of times in my life, but not for years.  I'm usually very good about guarding against that kind of injury.  Going to lie down on a heating pad for a while, followed by some ice.

Got home yesterday evening after a stop at a gas station and a supermarket.  Baked a potato and grilled a steak.  Ate both.  Was all cleaned up and ready to settle in for the evening when a torpor overtook me.  I was in bed by 8:30 p.m.  And despite having the heat on, my mattress warmer on and a nice fleece blanket and quilt over me, I began shivering.

Sigh.

Two hours later, I woke up in a sweat.  Getting up, I was instantly chilled.  Used the hairdryer in my bathroom to tackle cold spots up and down my body.

Then went back to bed.   Apart from a repetitive and stupid dream cycle, I rested well.

Am at work.  That's all I can say about that.

I'm no doctor, and I don't play one on tv. But it sounds like you are going through menopause.

I was thinking the same thing!

Yikes! The local critic doesn't care for Peter Pan. Except for Brent Barrett.
