Back from some chicken soup.  That made me feel a little better.  Also picked up some Afrin, which I just used, and something called Zicam, which I gather is like Coldeez but maybe better.  I think I'll know in the next few hours which way this is going to go.  Supposed to see Chess this evening, but I won't go if I'm not feeling up to it.

Hi everyone.  The pink show is finished.  It was a fun run, although the key 2 book which I played really kicked my ass.  Off to bigger and better things.

Monday afternoon greetings!  I was up and out early for a blood test, some shopping, and lunch and coffee with my friend Becky.  Just got home and I have to leave again in 90 minutes for tonight's AAUW meeting at the YMCA.

DR George:  I love Ring Cycle documentaries, and the STAGE HANDS one is great.  Do you have THE GOLDEN RING: THE MAKING OF SOLTI'S RING?  Not only great, Ring-wise, but a beautiful look back at real recording in the, uh, Golden Age.  I need to get the DVD which will be an improvement on my laserdisc.

I've never even heard of this.  Amazon has it, but I've added it to my Netflix queue.

TOD:

I would love to get rid of texting......I would hate to lose cell phones to do so, but so be it.

Amen!

It's easy enough to ignore texting...and certainly tweeting (which I've never done, nor understood the need for).  Sometimes, I just call back the people and explain that I don't have a texting plan so I have to pay for EVERY text that I get.  That usually convinces people to call me. ;)

I guess this will be it until probably Thursday.   I can't do internet on the ship (unless I pay an exhorbitant fee) and we'll only be in Grand Cayman for the wedding tomorrow.  Wednesday is an at-sea day.

Take care, everyone!

Was just sent a review for the singer's show that we recently did here in LA.  Excellent review so riddled with silly mistakes that I'm not even linking to it.  I did send its author a correction that I asked her to insert into the review, because for no reason whatsoever the reviewer attributes a set of lyrics as original and written by the singer.  Well, no, since it's my song, When You're Waiting For Love, that she's referencing.  I set her straight about that, and the set her straight about the actual correct lyric that she's mangling in a quote.

Had a nice day today celebrating my brother Allen's 60th birthday. It was a surprise party, but he wasn't surprised. He had overheard someone at his work talking about it weeks ago.

Did you come South for the party?

DR Jane, Allen told me that his replacement FedEx driver got himself stuck in the snow and had to abandon his truck overnight while delivering. Poor guy. Allen kind of figured something like that might happen as the guy had no experience driving in snowy weather..

I'm glad it didn't happen on our road.  We have had enough inexperienced drivers get stuck over the years.  We have passed his old truck on the road and think of him.

Of course if you look at old newspapers of the 40s and 50s, they seemed to have no problem with showing photos of dead bodies from all sorts of accidents and murders, not to mention going into graphic details in the accompanying article.

Sensibilities have changed a lot since then, I think.

That reminds me of a magazine which I saw in the early '60s which consisted entirely of graphic photographs of car accidents and seriously injured bodies. The intention was supposedly to draw peoples attention to the huge number of deaths and injuries on the roads, about which not enough was being done - especially as regards stopping people from drinking and driving

TOD:

The worst of today's technology are the automated voice messages which you get when you phone businesses and organisations and which keep ypu waiting for ages while they talk away and then ask you to press button such and such if it's about so and so and which often don't match up with what you phoned about anyway. They do their utmost to stop the caller from actually speaking to a human being.

I agree with you, unless someone else come up with a better idea ;)

I didn't get the chance to fight the good fight last weekend when I got ambushed by a head cold.  Started with a sore throat and before I knew it I was flat on my back for a few days.  And it left me as quickly as it hit me.  Oh, well--at least I got that over and done with for this winter...

A fast moving cold, not too bad a deal if you have to have a cold.

I must drive my car in,carefully, to the Hyundai shop this morning. When I was in Portland yesterday for my brother's party something happened to my seat belt, and now it will not work....I was just certain that because I was not seat belted in on my drive home that this trip would the the one in which I am in an accident and have a horrible, gory death! I was quite cautious. And I felt very naked not being buckled in.

Recollections of those horrid driver's ed videos like Signal 31, flashed through my head as I drove.

Awww Portland.  Has he moved or was he visiting?

That's too bad when it happens. Sloppiness on the writer's part, you think?  Or could there by any other reason?

TOD:  Portable cell/mobile phones.

I think cars should have them built in, but I absolutely hate, loathe and despise folks walking down streets and aisles yakking away at the top of their lungs, shushing folks in elevators "because I'm on the phone", etc.  And despite laws and hefty fines, not a day goes by that I don't see someone talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving.

I also hate being with folks who constantly text/talk while driving distances.

And they don't stop when you ask them to?
