Phone awful tone problem is now fixed and fine - and it had nothing to do with the alarm and you'd have thunk that AT&T would have known the other possibility and looked for it, but, of course they did not.  The minute we ascertained it wasn't the alarm he asked me if I had a TV service.  I told him DirecTV - he walked in the den and unplugged the phone line into the DVR and voila - phone is working fine now.  I called DirecTV and told them the problem - they said something was wrong somewhere and that it had to do with On Demand and/or the caller ID on my TV screen that shows when someone calls and I have the TV on.  I said I don't use On Demand ever and I don't give a crap about caller ID on my TV screen - once he knew that he said to just leave it unhooked.  In the old days pre-digital, the phone line had to be hooked in the DVR because it sent information every night to the box - that doesn't happen anymore so the ONLY thing the phone line was doing was providing caller ID on my TV screen.  So all is well.

About this time last year I thought I had something in my eye, and no matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of it.  Finally called the optometrist to ask him to take a look and get the damned whatever-it-was out of there.  But there was nothing.  I'd scratched the cornea.  My first corneal abrasion, and I'd been putting in and taking out contacts for some 35 years.  No telling how or when it happened, sometimes it just...happens.  He said it would heal itself in a day or two, and to relieve the discomfort, since I'm a lens wearer anyway, he gave me a pair of "bandage contacts" (they're highly gas-permeable, to let the eye breathe better) to wear for the next day and night, including while sleeping.  Did the trick.  And having been through that, I think I could probably wear a regular pair if it happened again.  They protect the eye beautifully from the horrible irritation when blinking.  For non-lens wearers, I dunno -- maybe that calls for the pirate patch, to help alleviate the blinking problem?

Yes, a whole new up-to-date system.  The sensors are all in place and fine and working with the old system, but this system is over twenty years old now and no one uses it anymore and it's a joke.  It's time to update and the guy said it's a very fast thing - new box, new pad, and that's it.

I believe Steam Cleaning People have just pulled up.  Once that's done, then I have to do some banking, then I'll eat a little something.

I e-mailed three dear readers last night about the problem with the troublemaker - please ignore it - I'm not getting down in the mud - that's what she wants and I leave that to her - let her do whatever she wants - if that makes her happy to crap all over someone's work, then so be it.  Karma will take care of it all - I don't need to be like her.  Thank you.

TOD:

CD:
Soundtrack to a Telugu language film I can't pronounce nor spell

DVD:
REAR WINDOW. Borrowed from a co-worker and his wife who were aghast that I had never seen the film. I of course was aghast, as were they, that they had not yet seen THE BIRDS.

From Netflix, THE SMALLEST SHOW ON EARTH which looks to be a cute film.

Last night after work I stopped by the new Chinese restaurant downtown and tried there sliced Pork Belly and Schezuan (sp) pickle dish.

I didn't notice any pickle, but there was a hella lot of pork belly!

Tasty, but way to rich for me. Their sliced Kidney and Mushroom is so far my favorite dish there.

Sometimes being patient and hard-headed pays off.  I made a deal for a wonderful score to a brilliant film (which I've talked about here several times) - very exciting.  The director of the film only had the separate music stem from the film itself - music clean but volumes going up and down as in the film, and mono as in the film.  We've had to deal with music stems occasionally and the mastering guy is great at it (Audrey Rose comes to mind).  But I was really not happy with the music stem on this - if music cuts out abruptly in the film it does on the stem - also it seemed to me several cues were incomplete and faded out.  The thing was barely going to be twenty-eight minutes, and therefore I made a deal to couple it with another score by the same composer from another film by the same director.  That score was thirty-six minutes or so, so we'd be fine.  But we went back to the composer and it turns out he had his tape of the first score - so I've got that now - in stereo and at least twenty minutes longer than what's in the film and what we had.  I now have to figure out if there's some way to fit all this on one CD - or if I go to two CDs - or if I make it to separate releases, which I wouldn't be keen on doing since the second film is pretty unknown.

And I have music to listen to - that won't be happening.  I'm thinking I probably won't go to this show tonight so I can finish liner notes - can't write those until noise stops.

DR CILLA LIZ I think Juan is scoring big points as well.....and Monday he will get to the day of the murder, which she has conveniently forgotten.

I think the finger, the magazines, and the journal are KEY!  And who knows what else he has....   ;D

As I just wrote to DR ELMORE - she reminds me of those later interviews that were filmed with Carol Fugate....

I think she's worse than Carol Fugate.  At least Carol was young and may have been influences by Charlie Starkweather.
Jodi did this all on her own.

The points Juan made are totally key to undermining her defense.  If you are in love with someone and walk in on them pleasuring themselves to photos of young children (her allegation) and he was so upset about it he attacked you and broke your finger, you aren't going to calmy text back and forth an hour or two later about the car and write in your private journal "nothing of note has happened in the past few days", and not tell anyone about it - even family members you have discussed your problems with in the past. Especially when you aren't living together.  For those not following, she is using this as the incident that she said was prior domestic abuse and that's why when he (naked and in the shower) got mad at her for dropping a camera she was so terrified that she was sure he was going to kill her so she had to kill him.  (But she didn't mean to shoot him in the face and doesn't remember stabbing him 29 times etc)

It's also all on Youtube.  just look for Jodi Arias trial and you'll find it.  I've gone back and watched some of the State's case that I didn't see before.

Yes, to the point that I forgot to even watch it this week

DR CILLA LIZ do you think Juan was just testing the waters yesterday and will be more methodical on Monday?

Yes and no.  Usually you do cross in topics and skip around rather than doing it chronologically. I would consider the topics from yesterday to be her double standard, a little of the stalking behavior and attacking the credibility of her allegation regarding her allegations against Travis. He also showed that she was attemtping to tamper with and influence witnesses through her coded messages in the magazine. I thought that was a great way to end the day.

In cross, you aren't telling a story, you're poking holes in the other side's story and the credibility of the witness.  Sometimes you don't want to be predictible or maybe you don't explain why you are doing something.  You are just getting the evidence in so you can support your closing argument.  The rules of closing are that you have to argue from the evidence presented and reasonable inferences that can be made from that evidence.  So, you have to get in the supporting facts even if it doesn't make a lot of sense at the time you do it.

The other thing I think he was doing was getting control over the examination and showing Jodi he's not going to give in to her or stop asking about something because she doesn't like it.  The witness is the star of direct examination, the attorney has to be the star of cross.  He's setting that up and I think he's doing it well
