Condolences to BK and DD.

(Edit):  I well remember reading about your in-laws in "There's Mel".  A sad transition.

Still no laundry equipment, and I have to leave in an hour or so.....not sure they could get everything done in 60 minutes.

Does that girl make it out of the lake?

With any luck, DR JRand, you may soon find out. After all I have to pass on my Sinister Cinema copy to someone, don't I?

LOL, and why I now prefer one story houses.  Actually I was still young when I had an injury and couldn't get downstairs to the kitchen for food.  ;D

That's odd it doesn't open for you.

They charged him twice for his stay which left his account overdrawn & no access to money.

I didn't say that the link would not open for me. I said that i could not open the link now (meaning i was on my kindle).

Thanks for explaining.  I would think that it would be fairly easy for him to prove that he was charged twice. It sounds like he did not pay by credit card (which would have been much easier for him as then he could simply have called his credit card company and they would have reversed the 2nd charge).

LOL I'm glad it was just that you were on your Kindle.

It didn't make any sense that they couldn't find & easily correct the problem.  Apparently twitting helped to get a reaction from them and the money has been returned to Jason. :)

Bruce, Jason didn't ask for help that was my idea.  I knew how you would feel about it since he posts on FB & not here.  Even before FB he was sporadic here.

Getting home from work yesterday was rather difficult. The railroad built the line going directly through downtown Salem more than a century ago...over the years this has caused any number of deadly accidents, FYI....anyway, just at 5 oclock a freight train speeds through and screeches to a halt. Don't know if it hit someone or what, but that is ususally the case.

So, you have all these business people needing to get from their offices to their cars/bus stops (or in my case, my apartment) but there is a mile long train in the way with no way to get around it.

On the corner that I was at, a group of us waited and waited and waited for over 20 minutes. Finally we could tell that the train was not going anywhere soon so we all climbed over it. It was quite a sight. Women in high heels and dresses and men in suits one by one climbing atop this flatbed car and on over to the other side.

Unfortunately, the people in automobiles did not have this option and traffice was tied up pretty good and for quite awhile.

Have you checked the paper today for a photo of all these people climbing over the train?

Does the passenger train also stop in Salem?  I wish our closet train stop wasn't Klamath Falls.  If we had a local stop I would take the train to Salem & Portland.

For anyone with a KINDLE who is interested.

The Hunger Games trilogy (all 3 books) is only $5.
This is a great series.

Might be for today only:

Just got word that my ex-wife's mom died - in her mid-90s so a nice long life.  She was a very nice woman.  Even though the ex and I never talk, the mom would always ask the Darling Daughter about me, and the Darling Daughter gave her the Kritzer books to read as well as the first three Hofstetter books - she was a mystery fan and especially liked the latter.

My condolences to your Darling Daughter on the loss of her grandmother.  It is nice you were able to still be friendly even if from afar.  Will you go to her funeral?  My sibling's ex's were at my father's funeral.  I'm not sure my sister was happy about it and would probably wouldn't have appreciated her ex being at her funeral-lol

I am back from a trip to my local post office, which I avoid as much as possible because the manager there is a complete fool and the service at the 68th street branch is so superior. So I had to wait forever, simply to pick up a package, because she's forcing the postal clerks to not only act as clerks but to step and fetch things. Hence, there were only two windows oen for the noon crowd and the line was enormous.  I wish her a painful death soon.

I'm sorry you have so many problems with your local post office, and very appreciative that on the whole ours is pretty good.  Best of all we have a little post office in our Rite Aid which is on our end of town.

Dropped the ex-wife an e-mail - she responded and said that her mom was my biggest fan to the very end - very sweet.  If the timing is right and it's not a horrid drive, I'll probably go to the funeral.  I went to her dad's funeral when he passed away.

Very sweet indeed. :)

I agree. It is totally silly that the train does not go through the Rogue Valley. It would be so convenient.

Especially since there are already train tracks here.

According to MR BK's notes....that would mean a net loss of $935.

You are much closer to NYC than BK is to DC.  You'd probably be out only $435.  That's chicken feed to you, isn't it?

The Great Train Robbery
Westworld
The Carey Treatment based on his novel which he wrote under the name Jeffrey Hudson

The Great Train Robbery happened very close to us.  I can take the road off of our street very close to the spot.

ANDROMEDA STRAIN
JURASSIC PARK

I'm pretty sure Keith would add WESTWORLD to this list.

TOD:

Looking at Crichton's credits I do not see any films that I could say are my favorites. In fact I have only seen two of his films, THE ANDROMODA STRAIN which I saw as a kid and did not like, and WESTWORLD which I also saw as a kid...I didn't dislike it, but it isn't anything I have longed to see again after all these years.

You were probably too young at the time for AS. While they added more action to the remake I don't think they improved it.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised you haven't seen JURASSIC PARK-lol
