I wish I'd stayed in bed longer, and I could have today, but I am up and about. I have little to do this morning before I head to Lincoln Center around noon. I have a couple of hours' research at the NYPL there and I look forward to seeing friends as well.

Of the really popular singers, there's some of Katy Perry's songs, and of course the person who seems to have made a new career of winning every award in sight whether she should or not - Adele. One of the Times writers said he's sure there's a law in california that when Adele is nominated, it's against the law for Adele not to win.

Adele catapulted to a phenomenon (despite being really good, IMHO, which normally shouldn't be a barrier) by being an ordinary-looking "be yourself' kind of gal. Did I ever post this Youtube tribute to the Vogue spread, where Vogue airbrushed even normal-gal Adele into looking like a super-model, pretty much defeating the whole point of why people loved Adele so much?

Loved that Adele spoof, FJL. But I don't care for Adele's material and haven't listened to much of anybody lately. We had to listen to Taylor Swift occasionally when I worked for the census and her work was performed on every channel most any time of day. It was not pleasant, though her voice is not as horrible as her material is.

I have Adele's cd. I listen to it when i'm not in the mood to be upbeat. Usually involving boyfriend problems. It snaps me out of my gloom by the time the cd is over. I'm just not that into being moody over a guy.

I sometimes almost hear Adele singing "Let the Skyfall" as "Let this guy fall" because of her history of singing about how badly some men have treated her- but she did the SKYFALL theme after she was happy already..

But she and the guy she wrote the 10-million-selling album about are friendly again.

It's the guy she wrote her earlier album about that she's still upset with, the album that was successful but not a mega-hit.

At leastm taht's what the gossip is.

Back from the mall. Browsed in the bookshops and in HMV (most of the chain is still in business awaiting a buyer - apparently Walmart are now interested!). Had a cheese and ham toasted sandwich for lunch. The good thing about visiting the mall is that I get lots of exercise from walking miles backwards and forwards!

I had to look Tena Clark up on Google. MR BK she is an unassuming legend who has a hit song laboratory.

There are some interesting articles about her and her life and work.

She also programs the music for Air Force One......

Totally agree about Celine Dion -- for me, a splendiforous example of no "there" there.

But there are, of course, popular singers who I catch here and there in a particular context who are just fine. When the whole world was going on and on about Adele being chosen to do the title song for SKYFALL, I had no idea who that was. I'd never heard the name. And that's not meant to be derogatory at all. I just don't follow that world.

And followers of SMASH in its first season will likely recall that Adele's song RUMOUR HAS IT (which Jrand posted) was the song for one of the truly memorable SMASH dance sequences:

Thanks, DR JRand! This is nothing major - we just need them to install a new faucet in the kitchen, tighten the one in the downstairs bathroom, replace the flushing mechanism upstairs, and safety check the water heater.
