Your opinion of I Am My Own Wife is very similar to my Aunts and Uncle. They were looking for something to see in NYC and it was one of the plays I suggested. She had the exact same opinion as you did. Interesting. I think now I will strike it off my possible play list when I go to NYC in 10 days

There was a musical fest as as well as a the comedy fest in Montreal while I was there. I sat next to one of the singers from the music fest when I fly to LGA on my way home to Florida. I asked him if I should go see Wicked or Avenue Q. he had seen both several times and like them both. But I think he was leaning to Avenue Q.

For those that have seen both which ones would you recommend?

As for my trip to Montreal there was never enough time to do everything I wanted to do. But I made time to see my great Aunt who at 94 is still sharp as tack. She is the last of the patriarchs who are still alive. She is my father's mother sister. I try to make a point to visit her every time I am in Montreal or at least calling her.

I also was able to reconnect with a friend of mine who I haven;t seen in maybe nine years, We lost touch and by fluke whe made contact and I spent the afternoon with him and later with his partner. We picked up as if we never left off. It was so nice. It is a shame that so many of my good friends live far away from me and we only talk on the phone or via email. I wish I had the time and money to travel where they are and see each and everyone of them.

Also caught up on my mail today. I received a letter from THE SONDHEIM REVIEW telling me that the Summer edition will be soon coming off the press and be mailed to me. And with that my subscription will come to an end.

I have subscribed since the very first issue and now I am thinking of not renewing. Has aone have any thoughts on this?

PS

I also miss Show Music. I have every issue from when it was just a Newsletter up to the final issue.  I hope it comes back.

Also like to mention that I receieved a package from DR Penny Orloff with a copy of the stage vesion of Jewish Thighs On Broadway.

I recommend to all DR out there if you like Bruce's Kritzerland trilogy you will most certainly love Jewish Things On Broadway. (Amazon or Barnes and Noble)

DR Jane, love the picture of you and Craig! Your son is very, very handsome, and you are way too cute...your smile is so great!!

I don't mind chain stores at all, in fact many of my favorite stores are chain stores...Fry's, Target, etc. Many chain stores started out as Mom and Pop stores. I shop at whichever store has the product I want at the price I can afford and a best selection.

Now as for a quaint town like Ashland I would not want the big chains coming in and ruining the quaintness...I would want them in the outskirts or maybe nearby in Medford, or maybe Talent, and keep the downtown more local business oriented...makes it more fun.

...and I don't care for Cold Stone Creamery much either...just don't think their ice cream is really all that good...and I never tip simply because I DON'T want them to come out singing!

I forgot to mention today's topic. Back in the days when I collected show album LPS I collected alot of instrumental versions because sometimes they would have material that was not recorded on the original cast LP. Li'l Abner instrumental is like that and has 2 or 3 cuts that did not make the cast lp.

Sometimes it would be a broadway season where there were flop musicals that did not get recorded and this way for example I had three songs from Let 'em Ride on one LP.

One of the more interesting cuts was an instrumental version of Camelot that had the cut called "The Quests" which was music used for a scene that was cut from the show early in the Toronto run when show ran over 4 hours long!!

I am very happy when the chain stores go to Medford, just don’t want them here.  I don’t think Talent wants them either.  They are working on becoming the next quaint town in the area.  It helps they are getting the Ashland overflow.  When The Gap moved into the mall is made the front page of the paper-LOL.  At least two of the Starbucks are in older buildings and the third is in Albertson’s so they are not tough on the eyes.  I have friends who have petitioned for Trader Joe’s to come to the area.

Next time I pass the Cold Stone in Medford I will have to check out if they really sing or not. :D

Between Avenue Q and Wicked, I'd pick Avenue Q but it really depends on what you're interested in, in a theatre experience.

I like to laugh, and so Avenue Q, a little musical with heart, would be my choice.  But, other people like a certain "bigness" in a Broadway musical.  For them, there's Wicked.  Also for people who like power belting.  And stars with recognizable names (George Hearn, Joey McIntyre, etc.).  And an interesting plot.  So you see, I'm saying Wicked has much to recommend it, for people who care about such things.  Me, I'd take those "unknown" puppet-masters over the denizens of Oz anyday.

For me, if I'm going to pay Broadway prices, I want to see a Broadway show.  For an off-Broadway show, I expect to pay off-Broadway prices.

More on the saga of the kitchen store:

The co-worker with whom I had the arguement tried to side-swipe me, setting up a complaint against me with the manager re store proceedures.  It didn't take.

I learned, in a conversation with another co-worker tonight, that she regularly tries to set up her co-workers in little ambushes, to lower their standing in the manager's eyes.  She's done this with the last four managers.  All she does is cause aggravation.

I survived twenty-three years of office politics in a big office, I can easily survive this.

DR Michael, I agree that WICKED and AVENUE Q offer their own unique pleasures, and I don't think you'd be disappointed with either one of them. I'm glad I got to see both. Will be talking more about them later this week.

I, too, very much miss SHOW MUSIC. Wish I could see it again. Now I feel out of touch kind of, like there are albums that are out there but I don't know about even though I surf the net constantly looking for new cast album info.

I, too, wonder what I'll do with my SONDHEIM REVIEW subscription. I have three more issues to go. May not be that many more of them, so I may not have any choice to make.
