Good morning, all.

It's raining here, which is good. But it's raining here, which means no one knows how to drive. Took 45 minutes to get to work when it usually takes about 20.

This morning, I'm listening to the news about the Boston bombing, and the anchor and reporters are talking about how the FBI has all these photos that will (hopefully) lead them to the bad guys. The are also going into great detail on how the Feds are gathering evidence and what they're looking for.

So, I'm sitting there thinking: IF I was an aspiring bomber, these guys are telling me all the things I should do to avoid getting caught when I set off my device. For example, I should wear a hat, so cameras can't get a good look at me; wear gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints, destroy my clothes, so no forensic evidence can be collected from them, etc.

Thanks, guys, for the valuable lesson.

Again, whatever happened to common sense?

BK,

Although I enjoyed it, I also felt that DJANGO UNCHAINED was 15 minutes too long.

Additionally, I felt that the Django character (Jamie Fox) was very unlikable.  You are rooting for him to save his wife and kill the bad guys (because they are so despicable), but the character is too cold to really like.  The problem lies both in the script and the performance.

To go into any more detail would make me a Spoiler, so let's just leave it at that.

TOD:

The Big Country by Jerome Moross (no strike-throughs)
How the West Was Won by Alfred Newman
Red River by Dimitri Tiomkin
The Searchers by Max Steiner
Silverado by  Bruce Broughton
Sons of Katie Elder by Elmer Bernstein
They Died With Their Boots On by Max Steiner

There are also some scores that seem to be for films that are western either by location or by action:  If Giant can be considered a western, then Dimitri Tiomkin's score for that; and "Shenandoah" by Frank Skinner is also a favorite, although it's set in Virginia during the Civil War...but has western "flavor" all over it.

Good Morning Everyone:

My nephew has left for Baltimore to get ready for American Ninja Warrior tryouts.  It will be Friday and Saturday.

Kevin H, my other brother Rick, and my niece will also be going.

Also, we are having a benefit for my brother/law Dave this Saturday at a Post.  He has a rare form of cancer.  Please pray for his recovery.

I love old Black and White movies.  I think there are still some I haven't seen.
Can anyone recommend any?  Not before 1940 please.

What other scores do you want to do and is your work on Babes in Toyland part of the wish list?

It is, along with two Jerome Moross scores, several Kurt Weill shows, several Jewrome Kern, Victor Herbert shows and orchestra music, Cole Porter - including "Jubilee" - and Rodgers & Hart. It's about 29 shows at the moment.

Ah, yes.  Jewrome Kern and Victor Hebe-ert.  Two of the best.

lDR ChasSmith, thanks for pointing out my dreadful typing. I corrected my post

Just been to see OBLIVION which I enjoyed.

I have to make my usual complaint about the multiplex where I saw it because the picture was too dull. I noticed that every now and again the picture would go slightly dull and then brighten. It did this throughout the film. I read somewhere that dull pictures are a common problem nowadays with digital projection.

My absolutely all-time favorite western film scores:

How the West Was Won
One Eyed Jacks
The Magnificent Seven
The Alamo

Oddly enough I'm not that keen on The Big Country.

Looking forward to "Oblivion." And I usually look forward to oblivion whenever someone opens the gin.

I'm a huge fan of screwball comedies:

My Man Godfrey
Libeled Lady
The Thin Man
After the Thin Man
The Awful Truth
Bringing Up Baby
The Philadelphia Story
Bluebeard's Eighth Wife
It Happened One Night
His Girl Friday
Twentieth Century
Dinner at Eight

And film noir. Take your pick, but "Out of the Past" and "Road House" are two of my favorites.

Thanks DR Ron and DR Droxy.

I saw some of these.  I loved The Razor's Edge and Rebecca and I get a charge out of White Heat.
Will take your suggestions and view some of them.

Bye Everyone;

By the way BK, last week I checked out some of your novels.  They received great reviews. Some comparing you to Salinger.

Will pick up one of your books when I get a chance.  Do they sell them at Barnes & Noble?

Let me know/

I passed a sign on my way to work. One of the lotteries is up to $83 million. When Larry and I both win it that's still 41.5 million each and I can retire and Larry can keep working on Roberta.

Elmore has promised to split any lotter proceeds with me if I promise not to visit NYC again.

My all time favorite western film music is from 1959s DAY OF THE OUTLAW.

It is a soundtrack I have been requesting BK to release since forever.

Johnny Depp as Carol Channing?

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/johnny-depp-want-play-carol-channing-215824713.html

This came up when Depp was playing Sweeney, didn't it - because there was talk of some Carol Channing - Sweeney Todd crossing-over - or maybe cross-dressing  :)

“Swing your diamonds wide, Johnny
Hold them to the skies
Freely flows the blood of those who're Loreleis

His beads are new, his hair is Cher’s
A feathered boa, some fancy stairs
He'd seen how Mrs. Molloy behaved
And all of the money that Horace had saved”

"Stiff back or stiff knees
You're great at Epiph'nies
Sweeney is a girl's best friend"

Or

"It takes a woman
To quietly brood
To bake him and change him
To her kind of food"

Or

"Mrs. Levi what a charming notion
Eminently tactical and inappropriate as always"

That's from  memory from when this idea was in the "news" years ago.  can't find the actual lyrics.
