I know you didn't like the direction, Bruce. Do you quarrel with the casting?

Two days after Keith's 17th birthday we became more than just friends.  On April 23rd, 47 years after that special day, and 47 years since Keith has been promising to take me to the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico he finally kept his promise.

Keith likes to change my photo on Facebook, a fact I'm totally unaware of until someone "likes" the photo.

Driving from the INCREDIBLE Carlsbad Caverns to Albuquerque we stumbled on this special place.

I'm sorry that is so big.  I'm not in widescreen.  Let me know if you are & I'll remove the pic.

Keith decided to take a side trip to the little town of Ruidoso in the mountains, out of the desert, which he knew to be near the area where Billy the Kid became famous.  He also wanted a Billy the Kid t-shirt which could not be found in Ruidoso.  It was suggested we go to Lincoln, about half an hour away.

When our morning began we had no idea how interesting the day would be.  Our regret is that we didn't spend the previous night in Ruidoso allowing us the entire morning to explore the area rich with history.

Yes, Keith found a great shirt in Lincoln where we also learned about the War there and the truth about Billy the Kid.  Such a sad story.

To the Three J's (Jennifer, Jeanne, and John;

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.  I enjoyed Jackman, Crowe, and Hathaway.  I did not like Marius.  But since I consider the property a very small ripple in the cinematic ocean; there is very little reason to argue about the film.

I've got a friend with a ranch in Ruidoso. Her description makes me want to go there. Was it beautiful?

I've been watching LES MIS. So far the only performance that has impressed me has been the young Cosette. I have seen nothing I feel is Oscar-worthy. I will say, though, that Helena Bonham Carter makes a great witch.
I was very impressed with the guy who played Marius. And re: Hugh Jackman other than the fact that he is a big name I see little comparison between him and Russell Crowe. Hugh Jackman is a broadway performer with an amazing voice.

I liked Marius, too. Would you put him in the Oscar-worthy category? Or any of the others?

Probably not. I thought many of the actors were very good. But IMO probably not so exceptional that they should get Oscars.  I think for Marius he just had the perfect look, acting, and voice for the character.

Does anyone here feel that LES MIZ would have been a better film with fewer stars and stronger voices--or perhaps voices better suited to the roles or to the abilities of the singers?

I don't know that they would have gotten it made without the stars.  I was okay with people like Hugh Jackman or Amanda Seyfried. Because I thought they could at least sing and act their roles.

DR TCB have you seen LES MIS often on stage?  I think for people who have seen it on stage a few times they are more used to the voice/sound/look of the guy who played Marius in the movie vs Russell Crowe's Javert. I think if I had never seen the show then I would have had the opposite reaction (liking Crowe more).

It was lovely & a nice break from the desert.  Have you been to Carlsbad Caverns?  If not then I think you should go & spend one night in Carlsbad & go to the Caverns when they open in the morning.  We spent 5 hours down there.  Of course we would have liked a full day to explore the area.

And for those who don't like dogs, here's an image of the Nutella stuffed pancakes that was sampled after the parade:

The parade looks like fun.  Were there any big dogs in the parade?

Quite a few of them. There were a couple of magnificent great Danes, a favorite dog of mine. These looked like you could practically saddle them. Didn't get a good picture of either, however.
