FORM AND CONTENT

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no form or content and yet had form and content anyway, and now it is time for you to post until the contented cows come home.

Re the notes, my question for BK ( and also anyone else who has opinions, of course and wants to chime in);  Does a play or musical featuring the actual songs of Rodgers and Hart in a dramatic context need the approval of the songs' copyright owners - and if so, do you think that would hamper the freedom of the writer to tell the story of the people?

It's been a few years since I saw the film "Words and Music" where Mickey rooney played Hart, but wasn;t the 'insurmountable all-consuming problem" attributed to Hart in that film which haunted the charcater in Mickey Rooney's role -  so much stated in that film''s screenplay as the fact that he was short?  (or was is just the failed romance with the Betty Garrett character?)

He's doing better. Thanks, all for the vibes.

He's taking antibiotics through Tuesday. He has skipped all his tap dancing classes and he's eating lots of chicken broth with pastina.

Good morning, all!  I slept quite poorly last night; my last bizarre dream involved Liz Callaway, conductor David Abell, a musical with a nineteenth century setting composed by Andre Previn and a last minute orchestration. Oy!

This is going to be a weird day and I do not look forward to much of it. At 2:30 I have a ticket to see THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY, an opera I truly love, at Manhattan School of Music, directed by my goddaughter's mother. I suspect there will be people I have no desire to see at the performance, and I am not sure Ireally want to be there. Decisions, decisions . . .

DR JohnG, trust me: you never want to see the NY Philharmonic abortion of CAMELOT with Nathan Gunn, who may have been the only good thing about it, as Lancelot: you'd have to deal with Lonny Price's god-awful production, Gabriel Byrne's unmusical Arthur, Bobby Steggert's punked out queen of a Mordred, and a lot of terrible musical decisions about the score. I did like Fran Drescher as Morgan le Fey; she made me laugh, and it was nice to hear "The Persuasion," but with three good menas Dinadan, Lionel, and Sagramore, why didn't we get "Take Me To The Fair"?

I'm also still waiting for a resolution to the last battle between the Man from Philadelphia and myself about his liner notes as well as an answer from City Opera about a singer's dates.

And thinking about MR BK's brushes with folks from the past mentioned in the notes this weekend....

I am a Facebook Friend of actor Roger Mobley - who some of you may remember.  Somehow, he doesn't say how, he got a box of over 1000 fan letters that were written to him in the 1960's.   He posted a couple of them and said he may try to find the girls who wrote him and finally answer them....  He was amazed and wrote:  "I was invited to proms, sporting events, and even for a week in Dallas....."

Good morning, all.

A very late sleep-in for me this morning, and boy did I need it.

Now I have to see about getting the energy level up in the next couple of hours.  More coffee!

I remember watching a little bit of that CAMELOT in horror and disappointment -- but also in self-doubt, because I have not kept up with the show over the years, and didn't feel I had the knowledge to judge it.  I never even went to the movie back in the day, and every time I've attempted to watch it has failed.  But I love that original score as much as I love anything.

It's a Mahagonny kinda day. I was listening to some of that earlier today. I'd say go and keep a low profile.

And thanks for the heads-up on Camelot.

Okay, DR Jrand62, I just sent the friend request.

And I'll have you all know this is the first time ever I have expanded my tiny presence on Facebook beyond the one tiny group (my high school class) my account was set up for.  A huge step for the likes of moi.

They just opened a P.F. Chang here (first one I think). My aunt chose it for her birthday dinner in 2 weeks. I am very curious since I have heard a lot about it.
