I had to go to the local airport today to check up on something. Had a coffee whilst I was there and struck up a conversation with a guy sitting next to me who was a retired banker from Nashville and was on his way to Germany. Had a really interesting chat about travelling, art and old films.

Good morning, all!  I slept quite poorly last night, and I slept in. I must shortly head down to Toyland.

Last night I saw a concert performance of THE SONG OF NORWAY at Carnegie Hall.... The concert was nicely done with two really wonderful and outrageous performances from Judy Kaye as diva Luisa Giovanni and David Garrison as her husband Pepi LeLoop that caught all of the dizziness at operetta when it's performed with style and a sense of humor over the plot's madness.

I first read David Garrison's part as Pepi LePoop

I've always wondered what SONG OF NORWAY really is all about, and how it plays.  I've never seen any incarnation of it and I'm not even sure I've heard any of the soundtrack from the old film version.   It sounds like last night was a wonderful opportunity to get to know it.

Yesterday, I signed up for Netflix.  At least, I'm going to do the free trial for a month.

Our local Blockbuster closed a few weeks ago, so yesterday I went over to the next closest one (7 miles away), only to find that they have raised their rates to almost double what they were before.

So, I said "Screw it!" and left.

I should have my first 2 DVDs from Netflix by the end of this week.

Greetings from Toyland!

I must needs find a Kinko's and get this vocal score copied in the next hour!

Back from the library where we found a few photos we were looking for.....but not a couple of other things.  I had to get a new card and that cost me $2......and they were a bit miffed that I balked at paying for it, and their scripted spiel didn't set to well with me....but I paid the $2.  I still don't understand what they were saying about "Your taxes support the library but......" and then it just drifted off into double talk....

Yikes.  Not the $2, but the principle.  I just renewed my own here, and it's still free.  Or "free".

I hope Callie will be fine. Hopefully she just pulled a muscle running like a maniac with Little Ricky.

If there are any of you who are devoted Henry Mancini fans, you should know that the complete original soundtrack to "The Days of Wine and Roses" has finally, after ALL THESE YEARS, been released.

You'll find it at Intrada.com.

It is a hot week in Oakland CA.  Today and tomorrow are supposed to be "da hottest" days.

So...they're saying that the $2 fee is a tax?  But, aren't your tax dollars already supporting the library?

That's what I didn't understand DR RLP.....  I guess if I had just applied for a new card instead of a replacement card, it might have been free....but I couldn't understand what either of the ladies was saying and they were both talking at once.

I did make sure, when I was returning my file with all my clippings that both of them saw that they were dealing with someone who might actually be somebody in town....not a member of the great unwashed.

JohnG, did you see this NY Times article about Texas?

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/01/big-hot-cheap-and-right-erica-grieder-talks-about-texas/

I wanted to stop reading after the first paragraph in which she praises a third-rate Austin restaurant that justifiably closed.

Well the news is mixed from the vet.  He couldn't find any place in particular where she had been injured.  He said it was possible that she got a little puncture from a claw and it's infected under the skin, so he's giving her antibiotics, but....if they don't work then there's a chance that she could have cancer. If that's what it is, he said it may be a very aggressive form that doesn't show up on the xrays right away and when it does show up the bone is basically gone.   I'm not panicking.  The first time a vet told me Callie may have cancer she was 2 1/2 years old.  She'll be 11 years old in June.  She has really high calcium levels in her blood and always has had.  So that's what they've based that idea on in the past.   I'm going to give her the antibiotics and hope for the best.

She didn't enjoy the snow this morning.
