DR Jane, I have a theory on why you don't see as many cats in the shelters.   Cats tend to stay close to home or to what was home  They are more likely to hunker down and hide but stay close and not respond if they are afraid.  Dogs on the other hand, are more likely to wander, perhaps looking for their masters.  Just a theory.

I agree with this.  I also think fewer people get a microchip for their cats vs dogs.  About the first thing a rescue group does is check for a microchip.

I think our Humane Society requires you to microchip when you adopt.  I know I had to when I got Ricky.   All my cats are chipped.

And one has been reunited :)   Thanks Cilla.

The photo in that story that amazed me was the horse being taken out of the rubble of a day care center

I hope all rescue groups require this.

I don't see the story about the horse.  I did read the sad story of the horse farm.

Had some bacon, eggs, and toast, then had a productive work session.  I'm done for the day.  I don't think much work is being done today on the ghost sites, but the plan is to try and have everything ready by the end of the week.  We'll do the final tweaks to the board, including adding CAPTCHA for new registrations, which will at least cut down on the enormous spam registrations that come in every day, and get Donald all set up with the new and improved radio show software.  And work on the house begins Monday.

Trying to pull together some last minute things for the move tomorrow.  Some things are not packed and they won't be until tomorrow I would suspect.  But I'll have hands then.  I get the truck at 8:00 - friends come between 9:00 and 9:30 - we'll pack things up, drive across the bridge, unload quickly as I have to return the truck by 2:00. It all seems doable

Tonight, I'm going to Pride night at Great America, an amusement park in the area.  I don't normally do Pride things, but I need a change of scenery for a bit.

I don't think ketchup has any business being near a meatloaf

I usually make meatloaf with just beef  but this last time I bought a 2 lbs combination package of 1/3 each  beef/veal/pork
