Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

Assuming I don't get blown off to the Land of Oz, which I don't think has Internet service, I probably will not be back on the board before next week.

DR JRand, you would love Netflix streaming....sooooo many old B movies that are not on DVD! No place else that I know of where Vera Ralston movies are sitting there just waiting to be viewed!

Seriously though, since you have a Blue Ray player you are already set to stream. Take a gander at this link to see what is available to watch (you can search by actor, director, etc).

Ask BK: How did announcing on a holiday Monday affect sales? Or did it affect sales?

It didn't really affect sales.

I have posted photos of the house before, but I'll find and do so again.  And I do have a photo of my grandparents so I'll post that.

Big doings this morning.  I spent most of the morning going over the new site stuff and the good news is they've begun the migration.  We went over the last of the details, they've got the radio show page working and I uploaded a sound file to it and it works perfectly - those who've had annoying experiences with the show before are going to be thrilled how easy it is now - you literally just press play and that's it.  So, the main site is perfect save for the interviews, which will be there at some point soon.

The discussion board is also migrating so here's how that will work:  We still haven't figured out the calendar event thing, but that's not a biggie and they will continue working on it.  We think we've made it so that when you post it will take you right back to where you left off - as George and Vixmom said, the way the updated board went over we had to check that preference under modify profile, look and layout.  But we went in and if we did it correctly, that should now automatically be checked for you - if it doesn't work, then just go into modify profile, look and layout and you'll find the box to check - you can also set other preferences there.  Otherwise, we've tested it for a week and all seems well.  They will be adding the captcha feature next week for new registrations, and there will be the nice thing that if you click on the "haines his way" at the top of the page it will bring you back to the notes - we've never had that before and I like that idea.

The new notes that go up at midnight tonight will be posted to both the new and old versions of HHW, so even though the site may not have propagated fully, the notes will still be there either way - that will probably be the case for the notes posted on Thursday at midnight.  By Friday, the migration should be complete.  You may have to refresh your browser.

Now, here's the most important part as regards this discussion board.  As of midnight tonight do not post on the old board at all.  If you do, those posts will a) disappear, and b) cause problems for the migration.  How will you know when you can post?  As soon as you go to the discussion board and you see the new version.  How will you know it's the new version?  It looks slightly different - the home page will have your avatar at the top, and there are more discussion boards now, like one for the Hofstetter books and the other books.  It's pretty easy to tell - while it has a similar look, it actually is quite streamlined and attractive.

Wow, things are moving along!

Midnight tonight in which time zone?  I'm thinking Pacific, but let's not assume anything.  We all know what assume means, right?

I liked seeing all the old photos. My father was a professional photographer so I have loads of photographs. This was taken at Christmas 1952 with family and friends watching 9.5mm films. I'm at the front and my sister is to the left. My older brother is high up at right.

You'll note that I am properly attired in jacket and tie, as people were in those days, even when at home on holiday.

Such a very nice family photo.  Thank you for sharing it.

I remember when we dressed at home for holidays.  It made them more special IMHO.

Wednesday morning greetings!  About 9:45 last night I got a text from my sister that they were taking shelter at their nearby hospital because there were tornado warnings in their part of Michigan (they live in a manufactured home).  We texted back and forth until she called at 10:15 to tell me they were home and all was OK.  Now, should I tell our mother?

It indicates your sister takes warning seriously and will be safe.

It's over. I wouldn't tell her. It's one less thing to worry about/deal with.

That was how Bryan felt when he didn't tell us about getting mugged, that is until he let it slip.  I would have preferred hearing sooner.  So what if I worry, as a parent I do anyway.

DR George.  Support at my library is very nice about responding quickly to my emails.  I was told
there is an audiobook copy of "Dog Tags" on the OverDrive site, but no eBook.

I used to confuse the two when putting hold on books.  Might you have done that?

No, I searched by title...both versions would show up in the results.  When I searched by the author in our OverDrive site (the titles that Timberland specifically had ordered), NOTHING came up for that author.

Migration has officially begun - for most people it will take anywhere from twenty-four to forty-eight hours and you may have to refresh your browser or empty your cache, as your computer may cache the older version of both site and board.  But for some people the migration could happen in ten hours or less.  Again, don't post on the discussion board after midnight tonight UNTIL you are on the new board.  The topic will be there for you to post in.

DR Ginny I wouldn't tell your mom because she is older and doesn't need the stress.

I think in DR Jane's case she should have been told since she would find it eventually.
