Am I just not seeing it, or do we no longer know who is online?

Today is my friend Paul's 65th birthday.  We had cake this afternoon. He's going to have a party later in the summer so it was fairly low key.

Birthday greetings for Paul.  I am glad you two are back being good friends.

BK, did I misunderstand?  For some reason, I thought you had said that after we post we would be taken back to where we had been.  I  guess that was wishful thinking.

Please be specific.  Where do you go after you post.  You should end up right back where you were and see the post you just made.  Is that not happening.  I believe that function was made universal and that I would have heard about it had that not been the case.

I also thought that you had said that when we quote a post that we would go back to that page not to the last page where are new post now appears.

It's never ever been like that - you're always taken to the last post, which is the one you just made.  That hasn't changed on this board.

We must have misunderstood. Because we both thought that you had said that the new board would be different. You must have meant something else.

I think you both misunderstood - I was talking about a problem we had when first testing the new board - when you'd post you were automatically taken back to the LIST of posts, in other words, not kept in the topic at all.  We found you had to check something for you to remain within the topic and then we found the way to make that check universal for everyone so no one would have to do that.

Guess how many spam registrations we've had since going live and with our new captcha feature?  0.

What is a captcha feature?

Captcha is when someone tries to register, they now have to type in a series of numbers and letters that appear on the registration page.  Most spambots can't do it and therefore most of the spam registrations disappear - and boy have they.

Chas, as regards the "new" thing - can you try something - on the list of topics you'll see a button at the top that says "mark read" - click on it and see if that takes away the "new" buttons on all the old topics.  My concern is that it will also take it away for the current one, but try it and you can always click it back to unread.

This calls for a celebration!

Mikey, I love your new gown!

But it kind of clashes with my shiny party hat.

So you will have to settle for a gladiator who is colorblind.

Yes!  It worked!  And I would assume that new posts will re-display it in this thread and future ones.

Got it.  So, if everyone or anyone wants to get rid of all those "new" buttons on previous topics, just click on "mark read" at the top of the list of topics and voila.

I have to say, this all happened much faster than I could have hoped for - I was stressing all day about it so when they called to say we'd gone live around three-thirty, I literally jumped for joy.  And I will have much fun writing tonight's notes.

Well, I am in need of some beauty sleep.  I'll even settle for ugly.  Will explore the rest of the site tomorrow.  Can't wait to see the notes.

Of course, many dear readers didn't even check in to see what was what - I suppose they'll join us in the morning.  What a long journey this was - I first brought this all up three years ago and this is how long it's taken to bring to fruition.

I'm thinking about a second jog, since I just ate three ounces of almonds - I never do that but that's what I felt like for my snack and all I'd eaten were the chicken tenders and they were no more than seven or eight hundred calories and I'd jogged off at least two hundred of those.

Why is it so hard for someone to go to the home page of this board, scroll to the bottom and tell me if they see Users Online?

Yes.  I am just used to seeing it at the top of every page.
