Going to the Hill Country this morning to visit a winery and a brewery with my church group. Then plenty planned for the evening. Will be E&T. Have fun, y'all.

Yesterday I believe DR TCB wrote:
Quote
Use it without the smf and it will take you to the new notes.

It took me to the old notes. It was weird. I tried to clear my cache. The only buttons available were to clear cookies and history. And even when I did that it still brought me to old notes or old discussion board. IT was so weird.

Then I did what DR George suggested. I went into notes archives. And then yesterday's notes were listed. And when I clicked on that everything was good.

DR elmore3003, there is a long "Britten 100" retrospective piece by Anthony Tommasini in tomorrow's "Arts & Leisure" section of the Times.

And a long piece (with photos) about male nudity on Broadway and Off-. But I don't think there are any DRs that would be interested in that.

Today's doing may include the local Farmer's Market, and perhaps a car trip to look at a guitar listed on Craig's List for the DH. We shall see what we shall see.

VIBES, also, for years of continuing success for the Mystery & Imagination bookstore!  May today be an especially nice event for them.

I just glanced through a few pictures on the web, and it looks like a fantastic place.  I will make a point of going there on my next visit to L.A.

I put a Hi-LILI, HI-LO parody lyric here in the Times comments, by coincidence recently. about Lilly stock and buy-low, sell-high.

Good morning, all! I slept very late. I have nothing on my program for today until 12:30, when I head down to the East Village and the Public Theatre to see VENICE.

More strange dreams last night, the last of which was truly weird involving a concert of the 1924 Gershwin musical PRIMOSE, but its meaning was so blatantly obvious I will spare you the details.

I must say I am unhappy with all these adolescent avatars. It was fun for a moment, but I can't tell who anyone is and I am having a bitch of a time skipping posts.

DR singdaw, thank you for the musical example. I usually add those in pencil to my score after I've decided which performer in the ensemble needs it.

CARY GRANT: Arsenic and Old Lace, Holiday, Philadelphia Story, She Done Him Wrong, Charade, North by Northwest

Leslie Caron: Gigi, Fanny, The Glass Slipper

Just DR MBarnum, but he's to busy spending his NYC money on trashy DVDs at the local Piggly Wiggly,

Further in the VIBES for Mystery & Imagination, here are two tantalizing pictures found somewhere on the web several years ago.  This was the Dover Book Shop at 2672 Broadway, NYC, in 1945.  Follow the links, where you can zoom in for a much closer look at what's there.  These photos kill me.   It's a look into a different world.  While I never knew that store, I knew others, in other towns, in the 1960s and 1970s, that were similar in style, feel, and content.

Oh man, the windows are flung open and it's beautiful here today.

Why can't it stay nice but fresh like this for longer than, typically, one lousy day?

Even if I do look out from the second story windows and see water pooled in the yard!

But that's better than what Vixmom sees.  (Dry basement VIBES to Vixmom!)

From one of the NYC rags:     :)

Quote
Truck carrying 6,000 gallons of Scotch overturns and catches fire in NJ
June 5, 2013

A tractor-trailer carrying a tank of 6,000 gallons of Scotch whiskey overturned on a New Jersey road this week — and then the liquor caught fire, officials said. “For us, it is unusual. We usually deal with gasoline tankers on the Turnpike, but to get a whisky tanker turning over in the middle of a residential neighborhood is uncommon,” said Fords Fire Company official Frank DellaPietro.

No one was injured, but the flaming booze did set a Cadillac ablaze before flowing into the gutter, he said. There’s no difference between extinguishing Scotch and gasoline, DellaPietro said: “it’s a flammable liquid. Once you put foam on it, it’s out.

The Woodbridge Township officials did not know what brand of whiskey suddenly ended up on the rocks.

Good morning.  The coat show remains intact, however, one of our cast members is in major trouble.  He's being allowed to finish the show (tonight is the last night), however, he can't participate in the cast party and couldn't go bowling last night.  The administration was nice in that respect.  He's a good kid who made stupid choices.

In the bookstore nostalgia department, I thought you might like to see the little gem that my Mom opened when she was about the age I am now.  It was in downtown Northville, Michigan, and was 8 feet wide and 40 feet long.

I see that DR JoseSPiano has not been about here lately, but most of you are friends of his on Facebook, so you know that he will be a featured singer (along with a few hundred other folks) on the "No Time at All" track of this new cast album:
