I'm not familiar with the Dahl source material.

Matilda seems kind of mean-spirited...think we'll pass.

That problem has been especially bad the past few years, but you're right - so far, so good!

"The crowd loves it" - they're back at Radio City, where 90% of the audience are teens and musical theater FANatics who are told to scream for their favorites - I hate Radio City for these awards and it's just like American Idol crap.  Oh, for the days when the awards were held in normal B'way theaters and the theater community was the audience - not rabid, screaming kiddies.

I still have a live trap. I would have helped you trap the relocate the raccoon if I lived near you.

Aw thanks.  The traps are all outside. it got in the walls, not the attic, so there was no way to put a trap there.  Traps are empty so far, hoping that we get one tonight.. Also hoping it's not a female giving birth in the walls of my house.  I don't even want to think about that

But just think, if she gave birth in your walls, you could claim each one of them on next year's income tax.

I heard about what the opening number was going to be and it sounded not so wonderful to me.  I remember when the best of the ceremonies opened with a full number from one of the nominated shows - Cabaret, My One and Only - those were my favorite broadcasts.

A "Glitter and Be Gay" more spirited than usual, at least for a concert setting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=oByViX0t-IE#!
That may be the best interpretation of the song/aria I've heard since Barbara Cook. She's fun.

I didn't like her in this, although she's a wonderful singer.  She's trying too hard.

Yeah, so what was June Anderson's excuse? Or Kristin Chenoweth's? Both of theirs are dreadful. I will admit I haven't paid attention to too many others' names, because I haven't enjoyed their performance, such as the woman on the 1974 revival cast recording or the New York City Opera Recording. Or Harolyn Blackwell's.

That's defensive, I think, and I didn't mean to put you on the defensive. The number is one fantastic number and hard to pull off.  It requires wit and subtlety, and those who push it miss the joke completely. Damrau is working too hard, and Chenowith fools a lot of people with her "operatic" voice that she doesn't maintain; she's sloppy vocally.

I can think of only three singers I like performing it, and none of them beats Barbara Cook. The three are Barbara Cook, Roberta Peters, and Marilyn Hill Smith.

And I am home from the party. There were far too many people.

And I didn't obsess about the skinny girl's calories.  I was noting the huge difference in calories between certain dishes - pasta dishes that you'd think would be around seven or eight hundred calories were 1800 calories, and a fried chicken breast on mashed potatoes in country gravy was eight hundred calories - it made no sense to me.

Don't care for the featured actress winners dress --- it looks as if  it was too tight and ripped under her arms
